Heres my 55 Ive had sence I was 14. Was my daily driver for 4 years and now am putting it back in service for daily driving soon...
My 55 Buick. A 2 owner car before I got it. Was originally red and white. Bought it already done. 264, auto, cutouts, white roll-n- tuck. Ran and drove like a dream. Had all paperwork including original dealer invoice, fabric swatches, every service reciept, insp stickers, dealer "thank you" letter and more. When I got it, I just added some striping and drove the hell out of it. Had to sell it to pay for daughters wedding. Damn! Oh the guy who bought it, found out that as a kid he lived only a block from the original owners when they bought it new. Said he remembered the car. My dad has a Bitchin 49 Super on Car Crazy. He has 3 pics of it in the top 10. Its the Kandy Red and Cream. I see Mr Grunion is on here. I have had the ultimate pleasure to airbrush some murals at his new shop. What a great guy and helluva builder. I will find some pics of my dads car and post them. Mike
Buick geared their cars so they would pull smoothly in 3rd gear from under 10 m.p.h. Even with the "monster" 320" engine. I think you'll find that the rear ends (at least the internals) are interchangeable up thru '55 or '56. That gets you into the V-8/automatic era where the gears were down in the 3.5 range. Your '48 could readily become much more user friendly. 'Course a 320 would make it even more so.
Owned this 55 Buick in 2000 and it was a nice car. It had all the paperwork from day it was bought, maint records, photos, fabric swathces, 'Thank you letter to buyer frrom the salesman who sold the car. I sold it to a guy who remembered the car when it was new 2 blocks from where he lived. Hated to sell it but had to pay for daughters wedding. Mikey
