My friend's Dad remembers a girl with a hot '58 Chevy with script on the fender and a pair of cherries. It said: "If you can beat me, you can eat me"[/quote]

HAHA this has been a Jersey urban legend for years. Different locations and different car but it always has the same lettering!

  2. Those races between places like the Sip 'n Sup and others were the real deal. Saw more than one guy loose his ride 50 years before Pinks. As I remember the story, the rail was from New York.
    Now back to photos....................

You know its a wonder not more startline staff haven't been injured. There have been two down here, back in the seventies. I guess now they have concrete walls that they slide down instead

This is a pic of my "Drag Car in Motion". I just joined HAMB today and this is a bitchin site. I just wanted to contribute. This pic was taken at Barona, Ca. in 2007. I have since sold this car and built a new one from a 200" chassis started by Pete Ogden for Nostalgia Top Fuel. I will be racing in Nostalgia Eliminator I or II. It will debut in early 2009.

dog427435, no that's a different car. I've seen those photos before. My car is exactly as it was in '67. The one in your photos has a bunch of differences.

Here is a photo of our BDS Racing's B/Dragester at FULL SONG taken at the FreeWay Drag Strip jn the Houston area. This was taken in the 60's and that is Melvin Scroggins driving. Posted on another thread but think it needs to be here..

  19. Royalshifter,

Your pic is an early stage in Knott Farrington's T bird's evolution. Here's the final version. Named Hel's Angel, for his wife Helen, it ran 242 with a blown 454 hemi. IMO, this is the most beautiful car ever on the salt.

  20. Actually, this car was originally built in 1963 and ran with this body as an A/D. You are correct in that narrowing the body disqualified it as a Modified Roadster. You can see it in action at the 1964 Indy Nationals as an A/D in Hot Rod Magazine Pictorial #3 (could be #2 - my memory is fuzzy in this cold!).

Not in motion, but there's a good story to go with the photo. Bruce Larson restored this well known car of Ivo's and debuted it at the Hershey AACA fall meet last year in the race car class. AACA requires that all race cars complete a 'condition run' to prove that they are mechanically complete, since they can't be driven onto the show field. At Hershey this means two laps of the 1/4 mile oval inside the stadium where midgets used to run. Bruce fired this baby up and idled it around the oval twice in front of all the Rolls and Bentley and Model A guys on 98% Nitro! I missed Friday last year so I didn't get to see that, it will always be a great regret of mine that I didn't!
