Went to a Farm auction on Saturday bought a 38 ford truck. They listed it as a pickup but what the hell. Waited around and it was the last thing to sell other than scrap iron and everybody thought this was to. Had an 18 inch diameter tree growing up through just in front of the rear end and went around the radius rod on the drivers side and half way around the torque tube and axle. Bidding started at 25.00 and I got it at 50.00. Couldn't believe nobody wanted to mess with that tree. I paid my bill and went home and got my chain saw but forgot my camera. I got the tree cut down before it got dark but went back on Sunday with my camera and get the truck out of there.

I'd like to see the tree before you cut it down, that would be worth the proverbial thousand words!

I'd use some of that tree to make a dash or something for the truck.

    Nice find!

  13. Oohhhh!!! A big block, and a turbo 400, and take about two feet out of the wheelbase, and and just how hard is it to drop a deuce and a half front axle!?! .........Thanks, Mike

  14. Cab looks pretty good after all them years under a tree. Good thing about getting your own firewood is that it warms you up a total of three times.:D 1st is chopping down the tree, 2nd is the next day chopping up into smaller blocks and 3rd time is actually in the fire place.

  15. just for shiggles, you should count the rings on the tree & see how long it has sat there.

  19. Most of us get wood when we acquire a new hot rod project but you are taking it to a whole new level...crazy good deal! You need to mill something out of the wood and use it on the truck...have Norm Grabowski carve ya a shifter knob or make a dash insert or something...very good story and a great score.

You don't know how close I came to doing that. Seemed like carting my torch and bottle through the trees would have been more work than cutting down the tree.

It'd be cool if you could haul the wood home on the truck? Irony?
    Good score!

    Nice!

That must of been some delicate chain saw work around the frame and driveshaft.
