  3. These photos were taken by me during the 1961 season at Island Dragway in Hackettstown (Great Meadows) and Atco in south Jersey. I'll ID as best as my notes and Old Fart memory allows.

    1930 Model A with girlfriend, Owner Unknown
    1932 Ford 3-window Altered, Owner Unknown
    1932 Ford 5-window, Philadelphia Modifiers
    1932 Ford 3-window red, Owned by speed shop guru Pete Van Iderstine
    1932 Ford street roadster, Owner Unknown
    1932 Austin Bantam, Bloom & Bowers Philadelphia Modifiers

    Fred Bear
    1963 Cecil County Dragway, Rising Sun, Maryland

    In late 1962 this car was built using the front half of a Willys frame and the rear half of the 55 frame. Also included 10% engine set-back and 4 piece fiberglass front end parts all glassed together to make a 1-piece lift off unit. It may not have been the first straight axle conversion, but it was one of the real early ones and a novel approach.

    That would make one hell of a street car. Imagine hitting Van Nuys Bl. in this car back in '75.

    Dave, is that "Driver Dave Hales" I see on the roof of Freds car? Care to tell us one of your great stories from the past as to why this happened? did you drive 2 cars that year at the Nats? Love the pictures.
