this all started about 6 month's ago when a friend of mine want to repower his 50 chevy,it was all origanal...so i told him hey lets put a 250 inline in there instead of a small block..gas was 4 bucks a gal :eek:so what the hell.we hunted up a 70 nova and removed the engine and trans,a turbo 350,and the rear.the engine got a bone stock overhaul, and i installed a langdon's stovebolt split exhaust manifold:cool:.the trans was also overhauled.i insalled the rear,it fit like it was made for the car,i had to fab up some u bolt saddles but other than that its perfect.
i had to cut the the center of the frame..so i could fab up a tube trans x member..i made out of 1.5 tubeing..1.25 wall... then it was on to the motor mts and i wanted to use the sock rubber mts..so i fab up some cool loooking plates and welded them in...the drivers side was a little tricky but clears all of the steering gear.i hope to have this project finished next week..i really want to hear it with the duel smithys..:D

I have a 51' Chevrolet Business Coupe. This is what I was planning on also, but I'm keeping the stock 3 speed/enclosed driveline by using an old Speed Gems adapter I have. So, when can you come up and do the "hard" work for me? Switch your old point distributor for and HEI unit; if you grab hold of and move the points breaker plate around you'll see why. Good job! Just in case you don't know, to save you some money to spend on what you really need, until you really, if ever, want to run it flat-out, the points distributor will be more than adequate, all the way up to IH left lane speeds and beyond.

  14. Hey, That looks kinda familiar, right Cfish?

One Eye did a truck 250 and put it in Chad's Chevy... had to fab up with all kinds of brackets to make it work.

    thanks guys..

i like the new avatar BM

  16. Yours too, the guy who did them is, no doubt, popular with ladies... :)

  17. I'm figuring to do this with mine (also a '50), but go still another route - keep a manual trans, but use the T4 (that was supposed to be a T5) I got for it originally.

I figure if a 250 works in my buddy's old plow truck to push snow around, it aught to move one of these little Chevys pretty good too.

Any issues with radiator clearance to the fan with this swap?

Looks real sharp, with one exception.

It needs a high carb diet.:D

With the Langdon split manifolds it would really look good with 2 carbs (3 would be titserific, but excessive for the goal stated).

Even the Offy 4V intake would be good with a small carb on it.

    Or Webbers.:D

    Not knockin it.

I know all those aren't particularly cheap, but thought I should 'suggest' it.

Definetly looks as if you have it well in hand.

With the regear in the Anglia we got just under 37MPG (highway only, already warmed up, diving for max milage, just to see).

But the engine is completly OT for this board (too new, and electronic to boot).

I'm also planning on doing the 12v conversion as well, what else besides the wiring and lights have to be changed?

very close brother...waiting on a few new parts...next week it will drive.

  29. Voltage drop or swap out on the fuel and temp gauges.. and I'd rewire the ammeter to be a voltmeter, or swap that out too. Horn relay. (the horns will work on 12V, just don't hold them down forever and ever). A later GM headlight switch would be a nice change, not required, but I think you can use the stock bezel and knob on one as late as the 80s.

  30. randy rhoades who built the grapevine clone outta the 52 chev it has a 68 nova motor and suspension, 250 straight 6 (not for long a 290 souped up motor for BONNEVILLE!!!)
