I like the 350 for heavy automatic cars, I like a 327 where you can turn it harder, the 327 more of a old school hot rod, I have several 350's i use now, Im no hater I like them both. If i come across 327 blocks or parts I try to make sure i save them for some one with a old hotrod not some goofball thats going to screw it up!!! there getting harder to find!

327s have a shorter stroke which makes them rev harder but 350s make more tourqe (longer stroke). but if you want to be old school you cant beat a 283 or a 327.

Man, I used to run 301 engines at the local track. At that time the only thing that limited revs was the ignition which, at the time was a corvette dual point. ( this was a while ago kids)

I see couple of guys refer to the 301 but hadn't seen any comments.:D I was expecting a "WTF is a 301?"

  9. I like to laugh every time I look at this thread.

I've got both 327's from dished pistons to 365HP 327's and 350's from stock to balanced 4 bolt with ported heads. They are still SBC's and run great.

What really matters: the intake, cam, trans, driver and the car.

I am building a 350 to trade a buddy for his 327. 350's are for cookie cutter cars and camaros. What year was the 350 introduced? 1967? How many vehicles on this forum are post '67?

I had a 327 with a TH400 in a 53 chevy pickup. my favorite small block i've owned. Then again I've only owned a stock 69 caprice with the 300hp 350, a 56 chevy with a stock 265 (which ran soooo smooth) and a 38 chevy with a 305. Didn't like the 305 but I bought a parts car (78 pontiac firebird) and used the engine tranny and rear for the 38.
I still miss my truck with the 327 :(

Had a 53 F100, 327/350, stock with headers... Paid $500.00 for it. Beat the crap out of my brother-in-law's 72 Corvette with a 350 with a high rise... He got so pissed he sold the Vette..To me. Installed a 300hp 327, gave it a liitle more cam and the car has more power and gets better mileage than the 350. That was 24 years ago...Still have the Vette, wish I still had the truck..
Bought a 64 El Camino in 1988..350/350...just bought a 327 to rebuild and replace the 350...Something about a 327...Just feels right..
When I went to the street races as a kid, if you said you had a 350 anyone would race you. If you said you had a 327 there would be hemming and hawing and chin scratching and " I don't know"....A testament to the 327's heritage....
    I say 327.....

327's have the reputation, mainly because almost every one they built in the 62-67 time period had 10:1 CR, and decent heads. The majority of 350s out there were from the dismal smog days of the 1970s w/ 8:1 CR, lousy heads, etc. Build them both with good heads and 10:1, and the 350 will make more tq / hp every time.

Look at the example above... a '72 Vette 350 had dished pistons and 76cc smogger heads. A 327/350 had domed pistons and 64cc 2.02 heads. Is it any wonder the vette 350 was a slug?

Unless you're running a weight/cu.in. class, there's no replacement for displacement.

They are both fine engines but consider this, GM made the 327 for, what 6years or so?. They dropped it shortly after coming out with the 350 and made those for over 20 years. 350's are plentifull and cheap. Build one and put 327 stickers on the valve covers.

There are times when the only questions I want to answer are the ones that can be answered with responses like "large with pepperoni, sausage and extra cheese" or "a pint of that locally brewed IPA sounds pretty good, so I will go with that, please."

327's are getting rare, more expensive to build. 350's are still everywhere, you can trip over one on any given day. Try to score a 327.
