I have to ask this question, but don't take it the wrong way..

    SWB =
    1. Short Wheel Base
    or
    2. Short Wide Bed

    Same thing goes for LWB.

I think I know the answer... no, I KNOW I know the answer...
I just wanted to see how you all felt about this gross misconception??

Think of it this way, if describing the truck only a longbed would be a long wheel base, and a short wheelbase can only be a shortbed.

but SWB means short wide bed, SNB means short narrow bed, as well as LNB and LWB

    hope that sorta helps

Dammit. It's like looking at the sun.

    Admit it, you looked twice.

To the original question, it's funny, but every Chevy person i've ever spoken to has described SWB as being Short Wide Bed... every Ford guy i've ever talked to, it's been Short Wheel Base. I just figured Short Wide Bed meant it was a short bed and wasn't a stepside.

When I see an ad without pics, I think of SWB as being a short wide bed and short wheel base... and if it was a stepside... they usually mention it. Oh well.

    I always assumed it was:

    Short Wheel Base

    Long Wheel Base

And I'm normally a Chevy guy when it comes to trucks.

    Damn. Now I'm confused...............

  11. When I worked as an editor at Truckin' magazine many moons ago, SWB meant Short Wheel Base, LWB meant Long Wheel Base and I never heard of SNB or LNB. Stepside were just called step sides along with either long or short wheel base, and Yes there are both. And Ford Step sides are called Flaresides.
Just the way we defined them back then

For 40 years I've thought of it as...

    SWB-short wheelbase
    LWB- long wheelbase
    AWB- altered wheelbase

  14. This just ain't right!!!!! Would this be considered "HAM" friendly? Wondering if this is augmentation surgery gone terribly wrong? I'm already having nightmares. But yes mazooma I always thought same , SWB=Short, LWB=Long Wheel Base. And I haven't heard wide or narrow box, usually flareside (outside fenders) or styleside (no fenders) pickup box.

West of the Misissipi ;SWB= short wheel base

East of the misissipi ; SWB =short wide bed

never heard of the saying 'short wide bed' untill i moved to kentucky..

to me you have three options...a LONG BED ,a SHORT BED and a STEP SIDE.

pretty self explanatory, either way it's speaking of wheelbase, short wide bed meaning short wheel base fleetside type bed (wide)and the same for long. short wheel base only describes what it says the wheelbase. but as someone said earlier i've only heard a stepside called a stepside not a narrow bed.

Different types of trucks have had different options,

as far as Chevy trucks- pre 55 pretty much long bed or short bed,
all step side except for maybe flat bed?

but in the 60's Chevy trucks came with:
    Long Bed Fleetside
    Short Bed Fleetside
    Long Bed Stepside
    Short Bed Stepside

    And probably others,

I may be wrong but I always thought:
LWB=Long Wide Box (or Bed) a Fleetside
SWB=Short Wide Box (or Bed) a Fleetside
LNB=Long Narrow Box (or Bed) a stepside
SNB=Short Narrow Box (or Bed a stepside
