Can Anybody help me with ,what steering box is used for correct era from 1960s Gassers on my 57 chevy Blown Hemi.
The Aluminum Corvair box was very popular. I believe the vega is the same but made of cast Iron and no exterior ribs. I'll take some pics.
I think the Corvair box was reversed for these type installs. I think Speedway sells em reversed already. If not, someone out there does. I've seen em recently
is it a straight axle car? if so you can cross steer from the front with a vega or a 525 box we did a 57 axle car with an injected 392 worked well....
Our '56 is very similar, Pitman arm points towards the front of the car, has a 1'' spacer down to the drag link (which keeps it near parallel with the axle). The drag link goes to the right spindle first and then back to the left spindle. This keeps them closer in length (than going left short to right long) and cuts way down on "torque steer"
these actuall go in front of acxle with pitman back, goes to pass side with arm mtd on top of spindle and the arms on the bottom of each spindle for the center link we have about 25 of these running around and they drive great and street as well as race only
How does a corvair box stand up on a Heavy car like that?? or more importantly my 64 camino How close is it to mounting up?? What years were aluminum? all ive been able to find are iron ones
