Okay guys, this is a Public Service announcement.

The Weasel has ferreted out:D something that many of you have been looking for: a new radial tire that looks like a bias ply and its a 100 series. What is even cooler is that it has a pie crust look sidewall to boot. Check out the Federal website and download the pdf brochure on the MR295 to get the real visual. Only available in 16 inch diameter in 6.50R16, 7.00R16 and 7.50R16, recommended for rim widths of 5.0" - 6.5". Talk nicely to the guys at Diamond Back Classics and they may even shave or whitewall them for you, as they are dealers for Federal Tires. This is the MR295 model.

The Ecovan ER01 model has a much wider range of sizes and rim width fitments - 12/13/14/15/16 inch diameters but somewhat less of a pure bias ply look. The first photo shows the MR295, the second photo shows the Ecovan ER01.

  4. MR295s are available in 15" too.

Thanks Weasel! The only DOWNSIDE to a lot of these radials that LOOK like bias ply rubber are the load rating.....like 8000# hahaa.

    I'll check these out too.

Load rating is listed between 2205/2150 lbs. and 3196/3086 lbs. Max psi 72 thru 90 and yes - oops - they are available in 6.50R15 and 7.00R15 for 5 in to 6 in rims.

These are meant to be van tires, so I guess we need a tire professional to comment here about recommended tire pressure on lighter vehicles, number of belts, sidewall stiffness, and whether there is any compelling reason why they cannot be run on lighter cars - the ride may suck though, but then again the alternative is cross ply and they are not noted for their wonderful ride quality.

Any tire pros out there in HAMBland?

Not to be a grinch... most commercial light truck tires have stiff sidewalls and ride pretty rough in an unloaded truck. On light weight cars, are the looks worth the kidney belt? Gary

Run the same pressure as you would in a regular passenger tire. The stiffness of tires with an 8 or 10 ply rating is only evident when air pressure is jacked up into the 60 psi range.

Here's the biggest problem with these tires: availability. Our distributor imports the ER01 for us just because of our niche. Otherwise, they would have no reason to import them because there very little or no commercial demand in the states.

I'll look into the availability of the 295. If you like the ER01-16", give us a call.

I've used several prs of 235-85-R16 Michelin LTs on the rear of some deuces and have had no problem. I run them at about 40 lbs and they seem to work OK. No problems to date.

hurst racing makes radials that look like good'year super cushion bias plies, they look dead nuts for bias plies because they use the original molds i think. Their recapped pie crust slicks are dead ringers for bias too, but are on radial casings,... awesome.

Um, hell if I know. I can ask him though. We swapped the roadster body for an RPU (Roadster is getting deuce rails) I think he's running 'Stones out back on the RPU now. I remember he bought the tires right before that picture was taken at a Farm tire shop in Odem, TX. The old tires are sitting in the trunk/front seat.

BigKen has tires just like those on the back of his pickup. I'm sure he could tell you more, also....

They're not radials, but look just like those.
