    The first orgnized drag races held in georgia were on dirt. This took place on the front straight away of the lakewood speedway. the track was 1 mile in length. the races were ran from the first turn to the fourth in front of the grand stands. their were several Dirt strips in the USA in the mid 50s. Thanks for the photos..

    super cool pictures, looks like there were a few hillbillyetes having some fun too. im glad she wasnt driving, it is never safe to drink and drag race on dirt without a helmet. looks like a great time.

    For those that are concerned about the speeds. The track at fairmont where the show was held is 330 feet long. It had real loose dirt so traction was a problem and so not much speed for these highway geared cars. the quickest 60 ft et car was that yellow t with a stock 231 cid and stock small 2 barrel carb. it could not spin the tires.
