Projects ac cobra knockoff nuts OT

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by divco13, Oct 13, 2008.

  1. Who makes knock off nuts for the real AC cobra. Don't want hammer knock offs (BAT WINGS ) Want the large hex nut for racing, 30 degree taper.
Need to get my hands on two pair ASAP left and right hand.

I know this is off topic sorry but I really need then!

  2. Real 289 AC Cobra's used two winged knockoffs for street cars with wires. The race cars used three winged Halibrand knockoffs and so did the 427 cars.

Bob, Try Kirkham Motorsorts,(www.kirkhamotorsports.com), if they don't have them, they could make them for you. They have been very helpfull to me.

I believe his happiness comes from Greenbirds (ahem) nuts at $440 for 4 versus the quote he had from a racing shop for $1200.00 for 4

  11. That price from Speedway looks like the right deal to me. I've been looking for a way to put something on the center of my Bird's wheels (came off a 2005 Mustang v6).

They look a little like the old school Halibrands - but came with some trashy plastic "knock-off" center caps. May be able to make a fake threaded spud to fit into the center holes and fit the Hex nuts.

Make sure you check your thread size. Sprint car knock-offs come in two sizes, the fronts (which are usually expensive, say $50-60) are 2-5/8", 8 TPI. The rears (more common, the $20 variety) are 2-1/2", 8 TPI. I would guess if the originals were Halibrand, they are one of these two sizes, but be sure to check before you buy.

sanction bodies won't let you race with the "eared" nuts IIRC. damn safety nazis.... made me take the sword blades off my chariot. never mind that the nut is pretty much within the rim area AND within the fender on most Cobras and you begin to wonder how much damage has to be done just to GET where the thing could injure you....(hand over eyes, deep sigh, shaking of head.)

  15. O/T- Team 3 wheels was making a 3 ear k/o. I wanted some for an old sprinter, but I'd have to have them rethreaded.

HEY TEAM 3 WHEELS----OVER HERE----VINTAGE DIRT GUYS NEED 2 5/8" AS WELL AS 2 1/2" theaded KNOCKOFFS. It's okay, we have jobs now... we can pay.

The Compomotive 3piece Halibrand Replicas have a "knock off" that bolts on.

That might be the easyest way to get them to fit those Mustang Wheels...
