I have several aluminum intake manifolds that have bad corrosion. The nasty white powdery type. Any way to clean them up ? And after they are clean is there a sealer to prevent it from coming back? Thanks
Cleaning them up is fairly easy, as long as you aren't concerned about keeping that newly cast look...you can blast them with walnut shells or glass-bead them, scrubbing them thoroughly afterward...they will not look "as cast", but then they don't now, from the sounds of things. ZoopSeal is supposed to be pretty good at keeping them looking nice...not the cheapest, though. If you don't want to blast them, then I've had "OK" luck with brake cleaner for stains, & soap/hot water & a scrub brush for general grime & white speckles...won't be perfect, but better.
Duro makes a jelly type aluminum cleaner & it works pretty well. If it's heavy corrosion, it will take a few coatings to clean it. I use it on any alum. that looks like yours, as bead blasting is not the answer on old intakes, if you want to preserve the original suface.
