Tooties! Bristol Tn since 1948. There is also the Burger Bar in Bristol Va. rumored to be where Hank Willims sr. died. All the burgers are named after him. The Sweet shop in Jonesboroguh aint bad either.

  6. Luds on State Street, Alpena Michigan. A buck's worth of gas, a buck for a bag of Lud's sliders and a coke = good for the evening. Sadly Lud's closed about a year ago.

Order up! Free diner for the right customer

    Posted 19h 59m ago

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (AP) — Jerry Grubb cares so deeply about the future of his former diner that he is offering to give away the 1950s-style restaurant for free.
He has only one stipulation: The new owner must move it and reopen it.

"These types of diners are really making a comeback, and I'm surprised no one locally wants it," Grubb said. "It's an excellent piece, and you can't get them much cheaper."

Locals called it the end of an era when Grubb's Diner shut its doors last year to make way for a pharmacy. Grubb, the manager and cook for 52 years, decided it was time to hang up his spatula, but he didn't have the heart to demolish the restaurant.

Instead, he dismantled it and paid a moving company to haul the 68-foot-long silver diner a mile up the road from its original location in the central Pennsylvania town of Huntingdon. It now sits on two flatbed trailers, empty except for the original light fixtures, booths and bar.

The diner was recently appraised for $100,000, but Grubb said he is willing to negotiate a lower price or donate it to the right person. Grubb bought the diner in 1964 from the Swingle Diner Co. in Middlesex, N.J.

In an ideal world, someone would reopen it in Huntingdon and bring back the 15-cent pie slice, said Barb Blair, a longtime Grubb family employee.

"People came here from all over," she said. "Jerry's mother would make the pies, and people flocked here because they were that good."

  12. Skink - where is The Nook? I am in St.Paul about twice a month and I'd like to try it. (I work in the Hamm Building). It ain't a burger joint, but so far my favorite place is Tavern on Grande for the walleye. and where the hell is some decent pizza in that town?

  13. Jason - is this place on Broadway (or is it Main?) south of the convention center? seems like I've seen it ...is it a real tiny place? we always do some Christmas shopping in the Plaza. Yes we've been to Winsted's for a late night drunk burger and malt.

Greens Sausage House in Zabcikville Texas. Best hamburger, sausage burger or chicken fried steak you could ever want. On Hwy 53 south of Temple. Has a meat market also. And should you desire, cold beer.

This place used to be packed with cars at night in Richmond, VA. It is still open and the food is the same, but not much going on.

  27. In Oklahoma City, a good drive-in is Coit's. The one on Penn and I-44 has a large cruise now and then.

Every Thursday night, that the weather permits, the Sonic on Choctaw Road and I-40 has a GTG that has something for everybody.

Far as old-time drive-ins go...not much around here.

In Arvada, Colorado, there is Gunther Toody's on Wadsworth and Ralston Rd, which is right across the street from where I lived as a kid. Great food, and they always seem to have something going on! Fifties themed, with roller-skating waitresses and all - not a drive-in!

  28. " The Little Holland " burger stand in Fircrest looks like it has another year from the wrecking ball ! P.S. Custard stand also ! Good to see a good old will be around little longer !

  29. Calamity Janes on Oregon Highway 26 just out of Sandy Oregon, Got real Malts to.

  30. bringing back a old thread ! anymore burgers joints ? time to hit the local drive in !
