The master cylinder in my '44 GMC 6x6 truck is mounted on a rather large bracket that bolts to the frame. I started a rebuild on the master cylinder but wrote it off due to excessive pitting. I managed to get a NOS one off ebay so it is now a replacement. There is some rust on the inside of the bracket and should be sandblasted. I only have the one part to paint for a while and the bracket is completely hidden. Should I break out the spray gun and do it right or can I get away with a quick rattle can job?

If you're planning on painting it with automotive paint later, then you want to use the right primer. If you rattle can it the paint will come off from seeping brake fluid anyways (unless you put dot 5 silicone fluid in it, in which case the paint won't stick).

For a small item like that use the rattle can! When its time than sand blast etch and do it right!
