  2. That's a tough one.

I've had purple hornies, cherry bombs and the old style Thrush round mufflers.

But I just had tto go with the thrush mufflers. I wish I could find a pair NOS 2.5 inch.

  3. there is no spot for us mufflerless guys.....

Nothing beats the sound of steel-packed Mello-Tones on an old car.

I get so sick-n-tired of the same old Flowmasters on everything.

The choices for me really depend on the sound of the car, and it's personality.

Nothing beats the sound of stock exhaust manifolds with striaght pipes at least to the begining of the axle on any V8 car. I even like the sound of an exhaust system with just resonators. But to answer your question out of all the mufflers you mentioned I have to pick the purple hornets. I know most won't agree with me but SINGLE chamber Flowmasters sound good on a motor with a high lift cam IMO.

Probably not a HAMB friendly muffler, but Borla was the only one we ran on the dyno (HR mags muffler shootout) that increased HP and torque over straight pipe. My favorite for that reason (have 28" glasspacks on the 'bird, though).

Wow! News to me. If they sound the same as the 1957 ones, they're my choice. Thanks for pointing them out.

I was reading up on mufflers that were used in the 50's and found this post:

Did a search on the web and found out the Porter's are made just on the other side of the river from me in Minneapolis. I'm thinking of using them dual on my Plymouth flat 6.

Those on the Porter web site sound better than anything I've heard since I junked out my old '73 GMC 4X4 because of rust. Had headers from Blackjack and 2.5" pipe front to rear with 30" Mitchell Glasspacks with 2.5" core.
My Brookville's gonna have roadster headers with side pipes and spiral baffles inside.

Wonder how the purple hornies sound like.

    Porter's sound pretty cool acually.
