I just read a post about the history of the flying eyeball, and it reminded me of a very cool program I saw on Von Dutch. I think it was a post on this website. Anyway, he talked about the beginnings of striping, and how he used to go to car dealerships to pin stripe cars. At one time, he striped a car that had lots of chips in the paint. He "connected the dots" to cover up the chips, and the dealer loved the design. The dealer had him do it on other cars, and it snowballed from there. Thus the cool pin striping designs were born!
Von Dutch was the father of modern pinstriping. To read about him and how he started go here. http://letterville.com/articles/bob_burns/vondutch/
That may have been what happened to Von Dutch, but I don't think pinstriping designs started there. A hundred years before Von Dutch was born, circus wagons and carriages were adorned with curly Q designs.
Roman chariots were decorated way back when. Hear about the Roman soldier who went out with the slave girl? He was Gladiator!
You talkin' about this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ruf4QQuBEmM&NR=1 Anyone know where this is available in better quality?
