Most States have a decibel level 0f 94dcb @ 100 ft. 3/4 throttle.

In case you have "AFTERMARKET" exhaust, in order to be found in violation of a law...Law Enforcement must first measure the decibel with a meter for a conviction!

Most states have adopted SAE J1169 for sound limits and testing which is 95 dB at a prescribed distance and angle from the tailpipe with the motor reved to 75% of peak power when that information is available. In the case of modified cars there is a formula based on engine size that determines the rpm range for testing.
Many cities in California have equipped their officers with Decibel meters and trained the officers to use them. Why? In response to Harley Straight pipes, Import Fart Cans, Zoomies, open headers, etc. Further California law allows for an officer that has reasonable belief that an exhaust is too loud to write a citation that requires the owner to take the vehicle to an approved state station for testing.
Denver has carried it further with an ordinance (about to be tried in court I understand) that does not allow anything but STOCK mufflers!

 

of course i (we) are a lil biased towards the acceptance of zoomies/open headers/lake pipes...

,,but this might be a regional thing,,but the thing that irritates me is those guys on the old KZ/GS 1000 &1100's drag bikes with open headers who love to rev them every chance they get,especially at stop lights,,the harleys arent even as bad...

Have you measured your pipes to see if they are in compliance? I can sorta feel for your situation, but if it were me, I'd just get better baffles in the damn things and count it as a lesson learned. Chances are there are other things that the officer could cite you for and didn't. Why keep picking the same scab?
