I need some opinions about installing piston rings.
When I put them on the pistons I aligned the ring gaps like this:
    (using the clock face)
    oil spacer 12:00
    one oil rail 11:00
    2nd oil rail 1:00
    lower comp ring - 2:00
    top comp ring - 10:00
Then after the pistons were in the holes, I read that the rings should be spaced 120 degrees apart.

I'm thinking they ought to be pretty close, but I never like to leave the gaps below piston centerline.

QUESTION... should I go back and set the gaps at 180degrees- or leave it alone?
It's now or never... what do YOU think?

  2. On a 3 ring piston I use the 180* spacing never leaving the top ring at the bottom of the cylinder. So I start with the top ring in the top of the cylinder,12 0-clock, and work down from there>>>>.

Do be aware that rings slowly rotate in the groves as the engine runs. On 3 piece oil rings I have always spaced the ends of the rails about 90* away from the spacer joint. But now it's together I would not loose any sleep!!
