I'll be leaving Phoenix early Saturday morning, should arrive in Wendover about 4 or 5 pm. I'll be in my black, fendered Deuce Tudor with chrome steelies, white walls and flames on the fenders. I should be some where around the Bean Bandits pits much of the time. Hoo Doggies! See ya'll there!

To all the salt virgins who think that covering your rat with salt spray gives you street cred....I'd be more impressed if you don't. Chances are that you have not immersed your car with Rust Bullet or similar, and even then, you will be finding globs of salt under your car a year later......Take it from someone who has been there.... Also remember that the car wash doesn't use new water, but takes water from a reservoir, filled with salt water. So if you really want to innoculate those hard to get at spots with salt, use the car wash and then consider yourself clean.....Some spray kerosene/oil concoctions underneath before going out. Use a lawn sprinkler under the car for a day after coming home. Aluminum full moons look great, but you'd better clean 'em real good after, or you'll have baby moons before too long.....
I'll be helping Hayseed Dave and Class of 39' with blown flatheads this year as well as a pal from the UK race his triumph bike. Taking a year off from racing our own car. Look for an overweight bearded guy riding an old bicycle around (yeah, that's everyone huh....) wearing stude t-shirts. That might be me.

I'm outa here. Leaving Dooleys place Fri. am, overnight in Laramie, should make Bendover by dinnertime Sat. I'll be staying at the 6 so if you have parts to drop or retrieve that'd be the best place. I'm draggin my hot rod, so if ya see a gray closed cab T with spindle mounts and humongo Dirttrackers gimme a shout.

    Heads up:

Fill your fuel tanks BEFORE you get to Utah. Utah currently has the HIGHEST fuel prices in the continental United States (even higher than California if you can believe it). Some stations here are 70+ cents higher than the National average. Don't spend any fuel money in Utah if you can help it...

 Kris, what would be the last exit (number or name) westbound on I80 before we get to UT?

Also, will you PM me your cell number just in case I need you? :D

According to info just in from the landspeed list (apparently almost from the horse's mouth) The coin operated car wash uses only fresh water and will be bringing a power-washer right out to the salt, where the salt washed off will stay where it belongs. The fire department usually has a pumper truck out near the gas station too which does a good job of getting the big globs out.

Most know but it goes without saying you do not want to power wash a car. All that does is imbed the salt futher into the nooks and crannies. I'm no expert BUT I certainly learned from the wise men that went before me to pray for rain on the way home and once home place a sprinkler underneath the car. After all the visable salt was gone I then used the Salt-X product hooked up to my garden hose to wash off the salt residue. I also used the SaltX product before driving on the Salt Flats to protect the undercarriage as much as possible.

We did stop at a self service car wash outside of SLC on teh way home last year BUT I only did the outside painted surfaces being careful NOT to force salt into the small spaces.

    Your results may vary :D

Good Grief ! I want to worry about the salt eating away the lower half of my car too, but, MY GAWD ! People, do you know how big this year is going to be? I mean, ALL the planets are coming into alignment this year, the weather, the karma, the vibes, the exellent conditions, I'm taking my 46 Stude, same as the last ten or so years and guess what ? The lower half is STILL THERE , just like I left it last year! Damn, I want to worry, BUT I CAN'T !!! Let's party !!!!!

I have a friend that wants to get to bonneville tomorrow. I think it is a little early. Anything going on before sunday? I just don't want to get there to early and be twiddling my thumbs. Sounds like most of you are arriving Saturday night or sunday.

I don't think you will find much to do until Sunday, unless casino's are your thing. There might be some local sights, but I'm not getting there until Sunday.

I don't know if they still do it but the local high school drill team or cheer leaders used to wash and clean up the cars in one of the casino parking lots for donations. It was their annual fund raiser and gave them their operating money for the year.

Drive thru the "ghost town" of an airfield....on the Utah side.....the "stored" the Enola Gay there and the old barracks are still there wrapped in fences......you can almost see ghosts walking around.......or look at the "grafitti" that is spray painted on the mountains on the north side of the highway..........there are a messload of old car club names that you will reconize......and funny story.......Tex Smith told me that back in the day they used to take a bath/swim in the city water tower on the other side of the highway back in the day.......
