I have recently aquired a 1962 or 1964 International 1/2 ton standard bed pick up. I have been told it has a 345 CI motor 4 speed on the floor. I have limited knowledge of the truck. It runs good and strong, but the rear end went out on it. I am looking to find the replacement parts for the rear end. Does Anyone know what came standard with these trucks?Does anyone have or know where to find literature on these trucks? General searches on the net have been terrible. The truck has great potential as it is a complete truck. the model of the truck is unsure whether a 1962 or 1964. It has side-by-side headlights and a concaved grill. Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like a 62 to me. i have a 62 travelall. i love'em. mine has the 266 v8 with a 4 speed and a dana 44. not sure if the 354 got somthin bigger or not. post up some pics, i love seeing other binders, especially 62's.

Try a Case-IH dealer. Preferably an older small town type dealer. They still carry lots of parts for the old Farmall tractors from the 40's and before . It's worth a try at least.
The rear end should be a Dana 44, and parts should be pletiful. Try 4 wheel parts wholesalers. They are in Redodndo Beach, Ca., but I think there is one in Arizona also. Clean the housing near the center section, you should find a serial number of sorts, its a build sheet of sorts for the rearend. With that number you should be able to get anything. It's possible that early of a truck might have a 304, not a 345.
If it a rear loader rear end most likely a Dana 44. Parts for those here in the Phoenix should be easy.That should have 5on 4&1/2 wheel pattern ,so a Ford 8or 9 inch or some Mopar rears could be used.
The best way to check if it is a 345 is there is a small pad right under the # 2 cylinder that is stamped with v304, v345, or v266. I found that the best way to fix those rear ends is just to replace them with a Ford 9 inch. I did that with my 68 travelall, almost the same width and the same 5-5.5 bolt pattern.
if it is a 345 and you need parts for the motor try a IH truck dealer they put those same motors in thousands of dump trucks and busses other parts are kinda scarce go to http://www.binderbulletin.org/ and ask around all the guys there are pretty cool also try http://www.mrscout.com/ and http://scoutparts.com/ for parts i had a scout 2 with a 345 there good motors when they run good remember to time them on # 8 cyl not #1
I say fix the rear, get it running well, clean it up a little and drive it the way it is. To be honest, I am not usually big on these IH's, but I kind of like this one the way it is. Use it for hauling parts for your other hot rod or custom projects.
Most of the 2 wheel 1/2 ton C series IH trucks and Travelalls (1961-1968) have a RA series rearend that was used from the 1930-1960's pretty much unchanged, they look similar to a 9" rearend with a drop out third member, the 4x4 1/2 tons had Dana 44 rears in them but not tomany of the lighter 2 wheel trucks did untill the late 1960's (D series). Any good parts store can still get parts for them (Napa), same with engine parts that SV series V8 engine was used from 1958-1985 pretty much unchanged 266-304-345-392. I have owned 63 Scouts 1961-1980, 31 IH trucks 1935-1974 and 3 IH travelalls 1966-1975 i love them, yours looks to be really clean.

Doug, It is either a 1961 or 1962...they are identical as to sheetmetal & trim, so far as I know. The C series Light Line was new for '61 & I believe the only changes for '62 were simply option choices. IH was a distant third in light truck sales to Chevrolet & Ford at that time, it wasn't their primary truck market, and so they typically made no changes from year to year within a series, or perhaps minor trim changes at most. You can almost certainly order parts using either '61 or '62 & have no trouble. Somebody at Binder Bulletin, or one of the other sites mentioned by Zman, can possibly decode the VIN & pin down the model number if it's absolutely required. The '64s have single headlights & a convex grille of a different shape....unless the front metal's been swapped on it, it's not a '64. The standard engine in a 1/2 ton for those two years would be a 266 V8...the 304 was optional. The 345 was not used in 1/2 ton trucks in '61-'62, although it could have been swapped in. As someone said earlier they are all part of the same engine family with minor differences. The rear axle could be a couple of things. Shoot a pic of the center housing from the back & post it if you can. The bolt pattern should be 5 x 5 1/2".
