    Hadn't seen this:

ANDREA Pininfarina, head of the famed company that designs Ferraris, Fiats and the Ford Focus, died in a road crash in the early hours of Thursday near Turin while riding his motor scooter.

Pininfarina, 51, was the grandson of the founder of a car body design company that became synonymous with some of the most iconic automobile body shells not only in Italy but throughout the world.

  2. Bummer, Pininfarina had a hand in many of our Iconic designs from the 50s onward.

Only in Italy does the head of a major corporation get killed on a VESPA. You'de never hear of the head of GM getting killed on a MoPed. I don't think Harley Earle would've been caught dead on a Whizzer. Those Italians just love to scoot around on those things and say "Ciao!". Just ask Eddie Izzard.

  6. Wow, thats terrible.

    RIP

  7. Huge loss to the design world. Condolences to his family.

Andrea was more on the management end of the business, not the design end. The house's reputation was built by his elders.

    Godspeed.

Vespas have a lot more grunt than A Whizzer or Cushman. The new ones will do 80.
Anyway,it is unfortunate. They sure influnced a lot of car designs around the world.

Interesting to note that 1/2 way around the world, the people can't drive either. And I thought it was just in my area.

    Condolences as well.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but those are some pretty dumb comments.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the elder Pininfarina designed the Vespa shape. Anyone up on Vespa history?

He was the grandson of Pinin Farina, but still a very talented designer and an overall great guy.

I vaguely recall Barry McGuire (Car Crazy) either doing an interview or trying to kiss him on his show. Either way the guy seemed real likeable and very interesting. He had a heck of a car collection as well.

i mean if you've got to go, would you rather go out in a blaze of glory at 300 miles an hour or buzzing around on a scooter. we all have to go sometime i guess, but hopefully not doing anything embarrassing at the time. i'm sorry he's gone, there were some beautiful cars built by them.
