ok mahalo for the help. By the way I took the cover off so you could see the inside and be able to reconize it much easier. How much these things run about?
what the heck is that? lol!! sorry my friend, I never heard of Polerize before, what and how can this be done? Mahalo for the help.
LMAO!! I'm far from it.....well I do have a small bit of German some where down the line. lol eh I was wondering, what class would my car be in? I mean like your car is considered a lead sled right, what would my year of car be considered?
OK...you don't know what it is. How do you know that it needs to be replaced? This would seem to need some analysis before the credit card or the screwdriver come out. Type of car needs to be known before it can be polarized, too, if it does need fixing...
its a 1957 Lincoln Premiere with a 368 Lincoln motor. I took it to the shop a little bit ago and told him about the new battery put in a couple of weeks ago and the generator being rebuilt this past Nov. he tested the system and said that it seems to be the voltage regulator, the reason I posted up the pics was because I didnt know which one I should be getting and I was hoping that somebody on here would reconize the type and send me towards the right direction. The gen light would come on sometimes, sometimes mostly at night but lately during the day time, and sometimes with the aircon on and thats on top of being on the freeway with the rpm's up high where it should be high enough to charge up the system, then all of a sudden the light would go off. my battery would drain sometimes which happened to me twice and left me stranded because the car would shut off when comeing to a stop.
I would clean the contacts and see what happens. They get a film on them and don't work. That's all I did. A parts store should fix you up if required. Another trick is to disconnect the battery while running. Stops= generator. Runs= reg. Don't let it run more than a moment. Just see what happens
Kool! mahalo for the tip! I'll try that right now, be right back in a few to let you know what happens.
You need to have it running about a 1000 RPM when pulling the cable to test for generator working with everything else turned off.
Generators can run negative or positive ground systems and, therefore, need to be polarized to run a certain way given your system. Here's a good place to get started: http://www.nls.net/mp/volks/htm/gen.htm Google "polarizing a generator" for a lot more information.
The generator gets polarized not the regulator. You can usually adjust the regulator and clean the contacts to get it working correctly.
