Gents, Are there any places left than can turn metal for dashes? Assume you turn it first, then cut out your holes, etc? Thanx, Gary
Really, it's not that hard to make your own. I did all the panels for my car out of 1/8th inch aluminum on a drill press with a 1/2 inch craytex stick chuck up and some oil. Oh, and a hell-of-lot of time. Some picts can be found here http://www.sunpirate.20m.com/photo2.html SunPirate
This place sells it in sheets and they have a lot of premade inserts. Several different patterns available. http://www.fpmmetals.com/automotive.php
I did a lot of them in the 1970's on Bugatti restorations. Somehow the hand done ones have a lot more warmth to them..........it just took so much time to do them.
I sent FPM a poster board template, complete with gauge holes, etc. for my A Coupe. They have someone that can water cut the pattern and they ship you a finished turned panel.
Here is a link to a good site about engine turning: http://www.cs.ucr.edu/~eamonn/et/et.htm And here is another one that shows a little about how I did mine: http://home1.gte.net/wgmumaw/Dash/instrumentpanel.htm
That's very nice work, especially with a drill press and carefully measured MDF. It looks like you used a milling machine. Very nice.
On the other hand, "Low" right here on the hamb sells machine turned panels that he makes and cuts to your dimensions. I bought one and am quite pleased. Search the classifieds.
