1938 Chevy truck Cab found in Santa Rosa, Calif. My good buddy, Scotty, from up there found it on Craig's list and picked it up for me. It's a start of a new "modified" hotrod build that i'm doing (hopefully) myself this time. I thought it would be a great start to learn how to build one someday. It's been a dream of mine ever since i picked up the my first hotrod (the '30 model A), that is to learn to chop, channel, section, weld, sand, grind ,wire and assemble on my own. Of course with the help of my car buddies to show me along the way but for now, I'm still just collecting parts! Since i've been able to collect some extra "new project" funds from some of the artwork i've been able to sell over the net, the wheels are turning once again. Thanks for all your support everyone with the art. I haven't decided on the drive chain yet, still pondering on that one There has been some previous Hamb drawings from the friday art show that have got my inspiration going these days, of course i'll add my own flair to the finished car. my parts list so far, consist of: '38 Chevy Cab black powder coated kelsey hayes 16's 7.50-16 rear blackwall tires 6.00-16 front blackwall tires Delco friction shocks front and rear. E and J headlights '32 ford grill (will this look bad with a Chevy cab?) '35 ford dash aluminum bomber seats '40 ford rear axle tubes '40 ford brakes '40 ford front and rear wishbones "4 inch dropped and drilled front I beam '38 Ford steering wheel I'm planning to take my time on this one and hope to post some progress pics soon enough. cheers and thanks for looking, CAB
Maybe a little sectioning too? Just thinkin' a bit... Looks like the start of something rad. Can't to see in progress pics.
Congrat's! It looks like a nice, solid foundation for your new "Coupe". Do you have Photoshop? I'm sure you could pre-visualize what the '32 grill will look like with your truck body. Let's see a Coupe-De-CAB rendering of your idea! Good luck with the build, I'll be interested to see how it progresses.
Awesome! I dig the belt line on those cabs. Not to sure about the 32 grill with that cab though. I think the cab is too round for that grill... Maybe hang on to the grill as a start for a 32 project at a later date? But, what do I know? I'm no artist...
Steve, Congratulations on the new project! I'm sure we're all looking forward to your progress posts. Should be awesome... Joel
Hey! Alright! Nice find! I always liked the Chevy cabs. Can't wait to see what you do. I'm trying to visualize the 32 Grille shell with that cab... I don't think it will look bad, but what about maybe doing some alterations to compliment the differences in the Chevy cab? I look forward to updates!
Thanks everyone... My friend Scotty already did some photo-shoppin to it a couple days ago I still think it needs to be chopped a "tiny" bit more, but the sectioning on this thing looks great! whatcha think?
Hey! Nice score! With your name and the idea of your build, it reminded me of an idea I had. Check out the drawing. Its a coupe rear and a cab put together. Im not sure if its been done before, but I certainly have never seen it. Anyways, use it for some imagination inspiration!
I know it's more of an East Coast thing, but what about a 38 Ford truck grille? Just a thought . . . . Matt
Hey Steve'o,, Awesome brother....I wish I lived closer I would love to help!! Get ready to have several emotional up's and downs of building a car from scratch..Hhaaaa trust me but its all worth it in the end... Keep up posted..
P.S.S How about a Flathead Cadillac? Wiith a La Salle trans to a quick change??..... UUuuuuuummmmm Yummy
Awesome Steve... you should really check out Macsratz.com they have some killer frames, and I think his latest truck is the same as yours?
I'd look for a '33-'34 Chevy passenger car grill if it was mine. Great lines, laid back a few degrees which I think ought to match the sloped windshield better, and it comes from the same brand. Those trucks have killer lines for this kinda build, imho, I'm looking forward to seeing progress reports.
parts list sounds good to me so far, cant wait to see what more you add i think itd look cool with a straight 8 in it
Sanmartin72, thanks for the photoshop, i like it and it does look good! Piero, you rock man and hey... aren't you still lookin for a house up here? already had the quickchange in mind. but, a Flathead Cadillac with a La Salle trans does sounds tasty as well ...and your right, a 32 grill does look good on anything, even this Chebby tommy v, that made me laugh ...i love Willie, he's a rad guy RustyRedRam, If i didn't already have this '32 grill laying in my garage, that could have been an option. Monster, very cool drawing and concept, thanks for sharing. This "hotrod" isn't gonna have fenders or a bed ...oh-oh, now i've done it
Cool Cab, Cab, looking fwd to watching the build mate. If you need anything uniquely Aussie for it let me know.
Hey Cab..... keep your eye out for a 37 desoto grill..... rare, pricey and hard too find.... but ya never know! great stuff and good luck.
