  1. So I could essentially do this swap even up, what do you guys think... My car is a '65 Mustang fastback, original red on black with a 289 auto, 3 deuces, Radir wheels. Nice car overall. The trade would happen for a 1962 Impala 409. Original 409 car, raced back in the 60s new, but has a '63 409/4spd in it. Blue on blue interior, steel wheels. About the same condition as the stang, little worse paint but with character. What do you guys think? I dont have a pic of the Impala but you know what they look like. Here's the Mustang...

Give the Mustang to the wife and but the 409. Unless the mustang has typical rotted out floors then swap it

I'd like too see some pics of The Impala before saying yes for sure. Thats a nice looking Mustang (I HATE Mustangs unless they are Fastbacks) but '65's are a dime a dozen. If it were a '67 I'd say no way.

  10. No offense but this is a dumbass question............take the 409 and RUN!

  11. Even without seeing the 409,I still think it would be a great trade.

  12. 409 4-speed Chevy. Mustang. I'd do the 409 in a heartbeat, assuming it's in a similar condition and completeness.

What do YOU want to do???

You haven't given him the keys yet?
The Mustang is nice, there's not doubt. But it's still a Mustang. They made a million of them. Literally. Look up the production numbers. It IS a nice car, don't get me wrong.

But when is the last time you saw a real 409 4-speed '62 Impala? Especially one with some drag history? Even without the drag history, I'd make the trade in a second.

And not just because I like '62 Impalas and 409s. It's a much more interesting car, one you don't see often, one that's comfortable to drive, one that will be noticed everywhere, and one that 65-year-old secretaries can't say "I had one just like that."

I don't like mustangs. But, fastback mustangs are a bit different, you don't see those quite as often, though I swear I see MORE 60's mustangs the older I get.

That being said, I'll add this: unless there is some serious emotional attachment to the 'stang, like, your pops gave it to you before you died or something, just monetarily speaking, you'd be better off in the re-sale dept. with the 62 I'd say. And, you know, it is cooler. :)

    Trade, before it's too late!

you have to do a little more homework to KNOW if it is a good deal one way or the other dollar wise. What type of 4spd? What is the engine suffix? If it is a QB 409/409 block then that makes it an easy choice. It if is an old truck block like the one I just bought then the Mustang may be worth a lot more. Is your 3X2 set up an original Ford unit or aftermarket? How solid are both bodies? All of these questions add or subtract value.

But if it is an emotional choice, and you are bored with the Mustang, then trade!

I had a 65 Ford Mustang Fastback. One car I wish I had back. That being said, the one Chev Impala I would like to have is a 62, 409 or otherwise.
I don't think you can go wrong whatever you decide.
