I picked up an 8" 5 lug '64 Falcon rear with my Bantam body. Center is locked and no brakes. 9" Bronco rears can be found here and both are 58" so can I swap axles to get passenger wheel pattern and buy new 11" x 1-3/4" drums? Anyone know what model had that size in 5 on 4-1/2"?

  2. The 8" axles will swap directly into the same size 9" providing they cary the "small bearing" housing ends, and 28 spline center.

I believe, though I might be wrong, that all Broncos with the small beraing 9" rears have 5 x 5 1/2 wheel bolt patterns. The 1973 Bronco rearend I have was that size. Great if you're going old school. I replaced the old axles with aftermarket to add spacing for disc brakes.

The '64 falcon 8" rear end is 57 3/8" and the early Bronco is slightly wider at Approx. 58". I would swap in the Bronco 9" and re drill the axles and drums for 4 1/2 " bolt pattern. I believe both have 10 " brakes, which is good, because 11x 1 3/4" drums are expensive.

Good advice ... because I believe that the axles are different offsets. The Bronco pinion is offset because it is a 4 wheel drive and the Falcon more centered.
