I've got a Blazer 2WD disc brake rear end which is too narrow for wheel back spacing over 3 1/2" Like to keep the 4 3/4 lug pattern and 7"+ width wheels. I have an adjustable proportioning valve so I could give up the discs. What are you running? Oh yeah, 355 warmed up/350; 700R4 as soon as I get the frame patch for the pan bulge installed Thanks 40F
I agree; looked for a lot of years for a 40. It already "goes down the road" just not the way I want and I'm burning the lights to get back out there. It came with the Chevy driveline and I'm frustrated with the lack of backspacing on this width rear end.
I ran S10 rear in a 35 , had 8" steelys with 2 " backspace and fit perfect . Same frame as a 40 . Pretty deep dish maybe thats not the look your after. Mike
Early Mustang or late 50s Ford passenger car rears are about the right width. The one under my '40 coupe (59 Ford rear) is (I think, it's been some years) about 57 1/2 wide, mounting face to mounting face. I run zero offset wheels, and it is just about right.
I'm running an 8" ford out of a '72 comet, hiway gears, works great, good gas mileage, but I'm no drag racer. Oh yeah chassis engineering parralel springs.
Early Bronco (66-73) 9" - near bolt in, right width, right bolt pattern (5 on 5.5"), unlimited gear choices Also 8" out of Granada/Monarch - 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern
I have been running a 66-68 Mavrick 8" on Chassis Engineering rear spring kit. I have had this setup for 24 years. You use the stock spring pads, you just bolt it on.I am running 8" rear wheels with a 3 3/4" back spacing. the gear is 278. This rear end is a V-8 Mavrick 5 bolt rear end. No cutting, get axles's,bearings anywhere. It works for me. 40BCOOL
I've got to second the 9" Bronco. Have had one in my 39 for years with a Chassis Engineering spring kit. Fits perfect.
I am running a 9" Ford rear with 5 on 5 1/2" bolt pattern. Car is getting the interior done at the moment. Johnnie.
