Stude truck: 'cost effective' updates....opinions? (nah, I'm sure not....)

Alright, so I finally breathed life back into my truck after neglecting it for a few years (kids being born, life stuff in general).

Now that it runs (again) it needs some help in the presentation department. spent all my budget on engine and chassis changes, so I need to do this frugally. below are some photochop images of a couple options.

    Comments?

right now (not a bad start, but definitely needs help):

removed the bumpers and added trim rings and white walls (ground or painted (?)):
I will eventually replace the bumpers with something, as I drive this thing a lot now.

    moon caps (ooooooo....) :

    ...or stude dog dishes (aaahhhh!):

or even fiestas (huh? trying too hard):

My preference is the trim rings. it's a truck and I prefer the 'simplicity' of the rings over the custom of the caps. although if I could find a set of the stude covers, i might roll those for a while.

i'm also seriously tempted to paint the grill inserts white, like they came originally, which would look sweet once the white walls are on.

i'm trying to find a stock set of bumpers because it needs something up front. never really liked the way the bottom of the grill and front fender are so much higher than the bottom of the fender at the backside of the wheel well. needs a bumper to fill that space.

    thanks

Remove the bumpers and give it an altitude adjustment.

Beautiful thing about Hot Rods, they're easy to change with something simple like caps and tires. If you're going to have a car for a long time, you'll need to change it some, just to stay interested.

The truck already sits nice and low. Bumpers off looks good. Just keep them so you can put them back on agian if you feel like it. Go to the swap and see what you find. the Stude caps look good. I've always liked those. It would be worth having a set to just keep around. If you're going to get moons, get real moons and either screw them on or use Zeus fasteners. Caps and rings with whitewalls is pretty much done.

Congrats on getting it back on the road, and getting back to making these kind of choices.

I vote Stude caps, bumpers of some kind--there might be an early 50's passenger car bumper that'd look right if you can't find Stude truck ones, I'm sure they don't grow on trees--paint the rear fender trim thingy white or body colour and some subtle white pinstriping. I like the grill the way it is in your avatar.

Zumo's version with the chrome reverse & no flames looks killer, too... maybe some scallops if you want graphics?

    sweet! Thanks for the input!

Thinking I need bumpers. commuting and parking into d/town seattle makes them a prerequisite to avoid costly body repairs. Just not sure which yet - got a line on a couple of beat up stockers.

Zumo: thx for the photochop; i enjoy the flames, but not for my personal ride. When the time and $$$ comes to replace my current rubber, they'll be taller tires than current, but not quite as tall as you've shown.

arto: those fender guards were put on because the fenders were getting chewed up from gravel off the front tires, but that was before I lowered it 4". I'd love to get rid or them, and might be able to now. (not as many gravel roads in seattle as there was on the farm)
I agree with the subtle pinstriping too.

hubcaps are relatively cheap (compared to new wheels) and will cover up the wheels I'm tired of. keeping my eyes peeled for the stude dog dish for sure; need to see them on in person.

The 0ne piece side windows are a nice touch, No?
I hope you decide not to paint the grille white.

Anyone know the name of the color on that blue truck? That looks amazingly good.

I put a 41 stude passenger front bumper on the front of mine. I like the wide whites with chrome wheels.Little stude caps look good also.

Yeah even though I did chrome reverse I think the thin whites and Moon disc would rock.

  27. Really pretty truck. I like stock Studebaker truck hubcaps on a half ton like yours. They come to a subtle point at the center. If not stock bumpers, a nice, simple bumper with a semicircular cross-section looks good. I've got a photo of a 2R5 with one such bumper but lack the first clue as to how to post photos. Someday I'll learn.
