I don't know what I think of stuff like this: AT first glance, none of the ones I've ever seen seem to be believable - there's something indiscernible about them that just feels "off"... Has anybody done one up where it looked good/stock/credible? ANybody heard of one? http://www.oldfordcrewcabs.com/ ~Jason
Okay, this one ain't bad: It's not that the others are necessarily "bad", just not the look I'm into, and a little too "street roddy" for my taste, I guess... ~Jason
theres a guy in my town that made one out of a 49 merc. ill have to take a couple pics next time i see it
Not my choise for a driver. But I still think is real cool. I call it thinking out side the box with a classic touch.
Most all of the conversions I see look like God-Awful abortions. I think there was a reason they never made trucks like those from the factories.
Got any more/better pics of that? It looks great from what I can see, really original. How about this?
I thought (briefly) about stretching the cab of my Diamond T, but it's just too cool the way it is, despite the cab being so small...
I too, have had similar thoughts... but I keep thinking an "extended cab" kind of thing would look FAR better than a full-on crew cab, as it would on your Diamond T. I've seen crew cabs on those, but only in fire-truck livery. ~Jason
Maybe not so much on standard trucks, but I love the look of 4 doors on COE's. One of these days, I'd actually like to build a '47-'57 COE crew cab on an '04-'06 Duramax frame and use it to pull stuff.
The crewcab Chevy COE was built by a guy who lived near me at the time. I've always liked the truck and enjoyed seeing it around when it lived here. Its running a Cummins Diesel and was never intended to be a traditional hot rod. The workmanship looked great 10 or 12 years ago, the last time I got to inspect it up close. And its probably the reason I own two COE's today, though neither of mine look anything like that one.
There were plenty of "factory" crew cabs built. Used mainly by railroads, logging companies, highway departments. The tan truck pictured is such a truck originally used by the US Forestry Service. Talked to the owner @ Bowling Green a couple weeks ago.
Only pic I have of the 49 Merc truck, took with my cell phone at the LA Roadsters show a couple of years ago. It looks like it is build on a Ford 250/350 chassis and I think it is a diesel. Probably more pics of it here as it shows up at Socal events pretty regularly. SoCalCarCulture.com
god those trucks look so much better being a 4 door or ext cab, but how are the bigger trucks for making panels for them, i mean do they warp bad or do ya just get another cab to fit together?
I saw this yesterday and thought it was preaty cool,http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...37;3AMEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=230268270521&rd=1
The word wasteful comes to mind. I can understand 3 cabs, but 12 doors? He did do a good job, though. Sucks cause that's the exact same thing I've been wanting to do with a Duramax dually.
