I think a gasser is a great idea and I am currently building a one but I believe you should ho;d out for a post car. Hardtops are getting harder top find in great condition like yours. I would probably keep that one and look for a cheap shell. Thing about a gasser is that you need very little of the original car to make a great statement. You are going to cut it up a bunch and disregard many of the original parts. You have a beautiful car that should not be sacrificed for a gasser project. Just my thoughts. Four speed, fenderwell headers chrome reverse wheels and redlines or pinner whites, chrome rear bumper and drive the wheels off of it!or just go the opposite way bellflowers, astros and pinner whites and set it down on the rails. either way drive the hell out of it, nice car by the way!

I say GASSER I am currently rebuilding a 55 2dr hardtop I am hoping to have it at the hamb drags. For those that say they don't look right or that they did not do it YOU BETTER DO SOME RESEARCH. I colllect magazines from the 50's and 60's and I can find as many hardtops as sedans. Plus there is nothing cooler looking than a hardtop with all the windows down and setting high in the nose.

So, what did you end up doing? The last post on the thread before the FNG dug it back up was in June.

    Update?

I would have voted NO, BTW.

I'd leave it the way it is. I predict the gasser fad will be short lived.

Very nice car to start with.

If it was a post sedan I'd say other wise but heres my taste on hardtops. Keep the fender well headers but no front tilt , chromed trimmed inner fenders, radiator support and panels, use front bumper and wagon rear bumpers. I'd keep the blower setup and use a small glass oval scoop to just clear some old skool corvette cleaners on top some carters and use finned valve covers. As for the interior I agree with some of the other posts -ditch the front seats and find a 55 folding bench and for the outside slam the front end switch to some torque thrust D's rolling on red line Cokers tires.

It's been a couple of months... any direction your going to go?

  15. You don't see too many hard top gassers because they weigh too much.

Personally I'd like to see it down in the snout and sitting about stock height in the rear. Cheaters ans skinnys and well you know the drill.

Never the less not done to the extreme a hard top gasser wouldn't bee too awful bad I guess.

    Edit damnit:

I do like the idea of the glass front end whatever way ya go with it.

Thats a sweet ride. I'd change the front seats install A/C and keep driving. A 4 speed would be nice.

how does it run a high 13 with a big block? More importantly are you planning on putting a diesel blower on it? Even more importanatly-DONT RUIN THAT BEAUTIFUL CAR. Id definatly put a blower on the 454 though.

No shoebox chevy should have its nose in the air. Unless its standing on its back bumper.

Dude, I only read to page 2, but this is EASY.
You were torn on your decision...obviously you have some go-fast goodies you are going to use....FORGET that silly STREETFREAK look and lower the back a little, body is level or ever so slightly up in front.....some 60's mags as wide as possible without resorting to ridiculous MTs and some runner-ish 4 or 5 inchers up front....fenderwell headers

    OKAY, to summarize, repeat after me;
Nice, low stance with gasser-esque speed parts....serious no BS look.

    Finish with candy paint (hehe)

Its best to do a gasser when you start the build, not when you have a car like yours already finished. Get another 55 and start from scratch.

Still have the blower and I'm looking to pick up another complete 671 with intake and carbs for 4hun.

I like the buckets so too bad to the haters

This spring it will get the blower, headers, and some decent brakes.
