I am putting together a "payne special"/prewar racer the question now is do i build the sbc V8 with the muncie or put a banger in it.
it is like a 1 and a half seater kinda old sprint car ish but its mostly in parts the body i might go with is http://www.speedsterbody.com/

i have access to either engine and trans so it is a toss up of sound and driving wackiness

    reccommendations?

Somehow, pre-war and SBC just don't seem to be a match, unless you meant pre-Viet Nam war.....

What kind of power can be expected from a built banger like the one pictured above? How about budget? Cheaper to assemble than say a 8 flatty?

Power is @ 125-150 hp and about 3 times the cost to build a SBC.....but I didn't read anything about budget yet.
You can't beat the sound of a hot "A" banger in an old speedster or dirt track type car.

Once again man small block chevys came out 10 years after ww2. I just helped Adam 401 get A ford banger going. they are very diffrent and very cool, where both smileing ear to ear! but I still love my 24 stud. go with one of the two and you can't lose

thanks for the votes and advice
The funny part is the banger would likely be a ford 2.3 or a volvo pushrod 2.3 which i have lying in the garage

maybe i should put the SBC in the old volvo

I say put a flathead V8 in it. Not one of your choices, but cooler than either stated option. :D

A 2.3 would work very well also.

Actually, I'd look for 2.0 or 2.3 Duratec or a Quad4 in that body. Would be very quick and light. Quad4's look like old race car engines anyway.
