Can't help it - I love this stuff. Realistically, 1K is major bucks to me, but I'm still willing to try and make it happen. 10K is too steep for me - for now.

If you guys buy or build a track, please do your homework. We keep getting stuck with guys down here who don't purchase a long enough streatch of land to have a good top fuel shut down area and then when they finally realize this, they can't purchase the neighboring lot no matter how hard they try. The result: Doomed to 8th mile events on a perfectly good quatermile track with a quarter mile shut down area. Get it right the first time.

Guys, I called the realtor this evening and here's the scoop:

The Hallsville Dragway auction is May 13 at 9:40 am in the court house at 660 N. Central Expressway, Plano, TX. Third Floor court room.

Opening bid is at $435,000 and there is at least one other interested party - maybe its you... He says the lien against the property is around $900K, but whatever the price is, is the price. It's yours free and clear.

I mentioned this to my sister and she thinks the idea of a drag strip setup this way is a great idea, she just wondered why we hadn't thought about finding a plot of buildable land not too far from Austin to do this.

Hmm wonder what 100 acres of land outside Austin would cost and to buld it out with the dragstrip?

Sounds like $1mil to me (WAG)

Just wish we had more time to get this together, 2 weeks ain't enough.

all ive ever wanted my whole life.... was to be part owner hell just part of a dragstrip.

ill put in a couple of grand.

and austin says no to a drag strip ive tried for years
the only way around it would be to book a band a night
or two a week, have no governing body( i.e. ihra, nhra)
just fun and friends no competition, aand call it a venue.

So are we all going to meet on May 13th? I guess we have to have cash in hand? What's the next step in making this happen. I hope it's not all just a dream!

Big Dad, can you add a poll to this thread to give an idea of how close we would be to get the funds together.

Have a $1000, $5000 and $10,000 option. Multiply the number of votes by the amount to get a rough total.

    Just a thought

Whatcha do is setup a PayPal account to "secure" the funds from donating members, then when auction day comes, any available member to represent everyone else shows up to bid with the available funds.

Hell, I'm in for a grand. I made many a pass down that ol' two lane blacktop. NHRA held division 4 points meets there for years. Shut down area is a wee bit short for nitro or blown alcohol cars. Not a good place for a chute failure, but none really were. That will put a pucker in your asshole and make you say "O" shit. Been there done that on numerous occasions, but the worst I ever got was a fractured neck.

The snack bar could sell Hokey Ass burgers, but for short, we could just call them "HAMB" burgers.:D

I occasionally have a flash of brilliance, but the flash fades very quickly these days.
