ATTENTION !! The Pennsylvania State Legislature wants to pass a law removing all cars older than 1972 from state roads. There will be a convoy to the Plaza at the State Capitol Building from the State Farm Show parking lot on Cameron St. at 8:30 AM, Tuesday, June 10, 2008. The function will begin at 10 AM and will last approx. 2 hours. The purpose of the event is to call to the attention of the Legislature in Harrisburg the impact that such a law would have on the economy of the State of Pennsylvania.
I'd like to see some more information on this. It sounds pretty far out there even for PA. Anyone have some links?
Well, to me it sounds exactly like something that would pass in PA. I got this information from my local Cruise News publication that I received in the mail today, and I thought it was worth passing along here.
Anyone have any links to a .gov site with more info about this? I try to stay as current as possible with the local government, and haven't heard much about this.
Ive always wondered about those convoy ideas, a "show of hands" if you will. When I was in high school the car club I was in (a lot of old timers) wanted to protest an emissions bill and the idea was to drive to Washington D.C. Just the thing they need to prove thier clean air point. A bunch of old loud cars making the street wreak of gasoline and inefficiency.

I just find it a little hard to believe the same state that just open liquor stores on Sundays, abolished the helmet law for motorcycles and opened a fleet of casinos would try to outlaw cars. Harrisburg is pretty close to Carlisle. It really wouldn't surprise me actually....
If I were you, I would bring a convoy of as many old cars as you can find that would be considered 'respectable' (IE, restored classics, MILD customs, hot rods with historical value) and have a little info sheet about each one of them available. Park in front of the State House and see what you can do. No burnouts, revving, beer drinking- iron fist in a velvet glove.

NJ's not Communist. It's just an outlaw state. You got to be an outlaw to live here. We just ignore rules and laws. Don't believe me? Just try to cross the street and see if any cars yield to your pedestrian ass. There's a law for that. In one ear and out the other. If they pulled that here we'd all still drive them. I reviewed the Legislative website for PA and I saw nothing regarding anything remotely tied to the intro. Where are you getting your information?
WOW. This does sound like some serious stuff! Al, it sounds more serious than most folks want to admit. SEMA should definitely be made aware of this situation and good luck with the "convoy" to the state house and the looming fight ahead. Once laws are passed it's difficult to get them changed or removed. I'm in nearby Md. but these kind of things are like a virus. They spread quickly to nearby areas....Don.

It seems to me that the legislators in PA need to give themselves a visual exam by stickin their heads up thier asses. Those regs are the most absurd I've ever seen. I won't get into the political aspects( you know, wasted time , hiring more folks to run and administer the program) But this is someones automotive version of a pork belly project!!!!

Yeah, no shit! And how many old cars are actually on the road and in daily use and being driven many miles? F*%$in BS... Yet every jackass redneck around here drives a gigantic 4x4 to the grocery store and all the soccer moms can take daily trips to the mall in their humungo SUV's. Talk about gross polluters... PA is kinda harsh on the auto legislation, but this sounds a bit far-fetched... Glad I'm moving...
The law the article speaks of was passed in 2004 and went into effect in 2007. Over a year ago. You are now fighting a law that already exists. You will need different tactics. And I also see no reference to specific cars being "outlawed". Just taxed though the thin veil of an "enhanced inspection".
I don't believe this bullshit. On the SEMASAN site it does state that H.B. 2163 has been proposed that would create a "Show Car" license plate which would actually bypass the "Enhanced Inspection", so why would they ban all cars from this new legislation, before it even takes effect?
I think there is some misinformation here...but either way, i'll gladly help out any type of protest that might be needed. First we need to figure out what bill we are fighting haha.
