looks good, I dropped my radiator behind the crossmember, my frame was stretched to make some room and I dont have a big honkin blower belt.
Hey Chopperman nice work .The frame looks awesome. Heres my blown model a,gotta finish mine been sitting to long. The wing is for another project
Anyone have any thoughts on shell insert ideas? I've been tossing around 2" flared speed holes but fear overheating
Have you looked at http://www.mcnichols.com/ ? They have some neat options for wire and expanded metal. I think i am going to use 1/2" stainless tubing, blind fasten it from behind....but then again ill prolly drink between now and then and change my mind.
I'm seeing expanded metal with holes punched and flared, with stainless trim rings covering the open edges of the expanded metal? Kind of like a thin stainless grommet... What are those rad hoses from? Looks like a nice sharp 90.
Well I decided to do a weld in cage that ties into the frame. So I fabbed up extra wide body mounts that have enough room to weld a 1 3/4" DOM tube. The mounts are BEEF, fairly short and are sleeved. I also had to notch the body to clear the mounts as I still need to remove the body to complete sub frame welding and I want to soda blast the body. Once the body is blasted and back on I will bend the cage up and weld it in. I am still debating on if I should run a puck or not, I didn't think 3/4" would make much difference in the looks but it does and I'm not wild about it. I may just run some 1/4" polyurethane squares.. I also mounted the fule cell and made some adjustable floor brackets for the pedals. I used some left over hangers from my plasma TV wall mount Shitty camera phone pics below
This is turining out pretty nice, and I do like the frame without sleeves just not the idea of all the crap that will get in there and never want to come out again, love the blower motor, mine's getting a TURBO, single TO4 turbonetics turbo on an accel turbosonic kit from the 70's gotta be different.
pulled the body off so I can finish up all the sub frame welding, instal floor pans, firewall, and weld up the rest of the frame. I also removed the stock firewall / hood lip to make for a nice flush firewall. I B Tired
Well most of the hard work on the floor is complete. I also tacked in my pedal brackets. Here is the worklist - Finish floor pans / tunnel - Mount battery - Plumb brake lines - Plumb fuelines, filter and pump - plumb clutch lines - Wiring - mount steering column - Make dash / mount gauges - Upper radiator hoses - Move grill shell up 1" - Make grill shell insert - Raise visor - Cut down windshield frame / get glass cut - Mount seats - Seat belts Few more weekends and we will be driving Also, what are your thoughts on exposed spot welds for the floor vs. fully welded and ground down? I want to fully weld and grind down, POPS want to leave spot welded and exposed.
I started grinding the spot welds on mine and I think it looked worse. The even tacks look better than grind marks here and there. I plan to locate a rubber mat for a van or truck and cut it out so it lays on the floor flat...leaving the tunnel exposed.
I had to call it quits as the bugs just got to be too much I decided to make a few access panels to get at the shifter linkage, rear alt, links, and fuel system without having to go from underneath.
