Ive never started a thread before, but I thought I would post pics of my 30-31 Model A Modified. Im trying to get it done for the Indy Road Rockets show in June/08. Since taking these pics Ive installed a 1940 Ford std dash and steering wheel. I have all the parts to finish it (all pre-1945) but its slow going when you are building it all by yourself. I dont think some folks know how much time goes into building a car from the ground up. I will post more pics later if you fellas would like to see more? Talk at you later George
I started with spotless straight 1930 model a frame from a local Model a restorer. I cut it up good! The wheelbase is now 98 1/2 inches and the rear tires are closed enough to almost rest your arm on. I located a Whippet grille sheel and radiator to further the early dry lakes look. I have 6.00 tires mounted on 16x4 rims and 7.50 (16x4 rims also) on the rear. I got the car to sit low, the doors are a Camel cigarette pack of the ground. The body started from a 1930 model a roadster cowl off ebay, the doors are from a 1930 2dr sedan, and the back from a 1930 a 4 door sedan. The motor is a very early stock 24 stud flathead. Need more info? George
1935 Ron: I like your modified alot. Not alot of room in our cars huh? We have a couple of real kidney bruisers. LOL George
SlamCouver: Man thats bad ass I love how stout and tuff it looks. I worked a long time to get the "look" I had in my mind. Im a graphic designer by trade. Im completely anal to the point of pushing the car in and out of the garage a couple thousand times to make sure it was the I wanted it to look.
I love it! You ask if we want to see more pictures? Why ask such a silly question? Post those pics!!!
"I worked a long time to get the "look" I had in my mind." Couldnt have done it better, by far in the top 5 of my favorite hamb rides.. looks like it wants to hang out on the dry lakes with my roadster.
Thanks SlamCouver, thats quite a compliment. I forgot to add something related to the body. I narrowed the rear 1930 model a 4 door sedan panel around 10 inches to get stuffed between the rear tires. The doors are bolted to the cowl and basically straight back instead of flared out like stock. I hope that makes sense? George
Very neat looking modified.....the Whippet grille is spot on. Please keep us posted during progress. / primerkid
I got the Whippet grille shell from a local restoration shop. Now everytime I go in there they ask me "How is your 29 Whippet coming along?" I like these guys alot and enjoy dropping in and talking to them about cars. Do you remember the scratchbuilt Golden Sub replica that ran in the Great Race last year? These guys built it. Great guys (3 brothers) and the shop looks just like the old garage pics from the 40s. George
Im back at work and upload some new pics if I get the time today. Some folks have emailed me this weekend about more pics. George
