  3. I know it's not your typical traditional engine but I have done what I could to make it look like it could have been done in the early to late 50's.

My humble first attempt and an engine. Its a 327. Did it all black and orange. Even painted the bolt tops black on the timing chain cover. The air cleaner is wrong, but when I put the stock Rochester 4-jet back on I'll go back to the stock air cleaner.

Painted each part sepearately. No over spray on anything, not even the gaskets.

Hand painted the raised Chevrolette lettering on the valve covers with and artis's brush.... then someone showed me where I could have gotten a template...!

For those of you who what the chevy script template you can get it hear:

Here's mine. 1.5 on the intake and 1.6 on the exhaust. I'm told that's somethign they did back in the day. It will look better once i get a second wcfb and paint it. 1957 staggered bolt pattern heads with offy valve covers and intake. 260h comp cam. Its a 67' block but I'm trying to date the motor as old as I can.

Not trying to jack the thread but....

I can't help notice that on a lot of SBC's, guys run their plug wires down the back of the block and underneath the headers.
Some done this way look like a fuckin spaghetti mess!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but seems to me early small blocks had wire separators on the valve covers and the wires ran over the top of the exhaust manifolds.

Is this just personal preference and am I just anal cause I like 'em neat & tidy?

Ok I 'll correct you. Chevrolet ran them around the back and then up to the plugs until the mid 60's. If you run headers of any kind this keeps them out of harms way. Most guys do not use factory wire protectors and when they leave them hang I agree, it looks like shit.

If I ever get the chance to build another Hot Rod before I die I would like it to have an engine like this Studebaker or even a Packard V8 or an old Rambler you know something off the wall.

My 327 - pretending that it just got removed from a wrecked '62 Impala/Corvette. Destined (and now running) in my '29 Ford Roadster.
