Fastest car you've owned?

  1. I had an MG Midget with a 1098 cc engine that could do 7.2 seconds in the quarter mile at 196 mph with a bone stock engine except for some Cal Custom chrome air cleaners. Those air cleaners added at least 900 horsepower!

I dont have an amazing quarter mile story but I was told by a cop he clocked me at 158 in a 45 in my 66 galaxie convert still not sure if its a 352 390 or 428 (never had it apart ) didnt know it was a cop behind me at 4 somthin in the mornin he didnt have lights on and was ridein my ass so I dropped the hammer couldnt really tell it was a caprice through the shity crusty back window. I was already doin 75-80 on a endless straight road when he slung in behind me and he didnt throw all his lights on till I was 6-7 car lengths ahead. Yes a convert is scary at anything over a hundred and yes I gota ticket no I didnt have to pay, he didnt show but best of all he didnt tow me!

hey i just went to the site and that thing is pretty damn accurate! i built an all aluminum small motor ford with a paxton sold it to my best friend and put it in his 90 Mustang notch with a tube chassis. took it to the dyno the first of march and it dynoed out at just over 1600 hp to the ground (he was spraying 800 shot). rented the track a week or so later and he turned the high 6's taking the long way down the 1/4.

i didnt go to the track with them to test (it was mid week) but i was there when they did the chassis dyno and that car was violent when it was doing its pulls. a few of us thought it was going to jump off of the dyno, we had straps for the straps!!! the only thing about doing a chassis dyno on a high horse car is the tire growth.

  5. Very built 99 Dodge Dakota. Over $5000 in the motor.
Never ran for time but I would guess high 11s or low 12s.
Quarter mile times in my Comets are in minutes, not seconds.

bought the Wally Lynn/Carl Holbrook '67 Mustang FB SS/FA national record holder in 1974 - BBF/C6 - Holman Moody motor - converted over to street use - terrorized the street races - closed up on street tires 12.20, headers open and slicks - 11.50/120 - what a ride - sold in 1978 - still miss it today

quick or fast? My 72 Monte Carlo ran 145mph w/427BB. Gearing would only let it do 155, so torque converter slip??

My '68 Charger has been my fastest AND quickest....
All stock with 3.23's went just over 140mph....
Then later when I started making changes for "street" racing....it'd run mid 11's on a mild 440, built 727, 4.10's and a little huff o' spray.....
It's slower these days (probably high 12's)....no McCreary's, 727 or spray....but still alot of fun with 4.10's and a 4-speed!

I really never had a real fast hot rod until I got my sedan on the road. Now my daily driver is faster. I guess I'll have to build another motor for the sedan.

I've never had anything anyone would call stupid fast for sure, but my 302 ranger was probably good for high 13's if I had ever gotten those friggin secondaries to open up, though I never raced it, it was pretty quick for a 4x4.

I never answered the question when i posted before...
Quickest was an 81 Malibu i built year's ago..331 chevy, 12:1 comp, Brodix heads etc etc...i never ran it at the track even though that's what i built it for..full cage, fuel cell.....I put plates on it instead. I sold it shortly after i got it on the road.
I horsed around on the street with it some though.. I ran my boss with his 71 BBC Chevelle once. I knew his car ran mid/high 11's in street trim and i was right next to him pretty much the whole time. He had me from the start with the torque he had, but once the little mouse started to breath it did surprisingly well in catching him..When i hit second i was at his door already..We got off them before we could see who would actually win..Didn't want to kill someone.
Fastest was a modified 911sc Porsche i had..i was VERY impressed with that car..Like them or not, they are purpose built cars.

Had a 68 Dart, 4 link, tubbed, 440 W/tunnel Ram, 4.88 gears, 727 W 3500 stahl. Never ran it at the strip but it hooked hard and went straight, very fast car though! Wish I still had it. Don't even have a photo:(

  19. In May 68 bouhgt a 68 Charger R/T, 440 6pack, 4spd. 4:10 Dana 60. Loved that car but it lost the fight with a 59 Caddy.

  20. 63 Plymouth Valiant wagon,built 360,904,8 3/4 4:10....10.80's still got it!!

My kid has a 64 Valiant 2dr post car with a slant 6 that ran 11:98! then he had a brain fart and started playing with mustangs and lost intrest in it so now it sits, but he did comment the other day that he is getting rid of the stang and wanted to make a daily driver out of the Valiant but no he went and bought a damn Jeep!!

Oldhemi, I thought the 6 Pack was introduced in the early spring of 69 and only offered in the Roadrunner or Super B?

  23. 71 Duster, worked 360, best 1/4 mile time 10.38. Oh, and it was street legal. Barely. I had a rear with highway gears and a rear for the strip. While racing someone on I-84 with the highway gears I got clocked at 161. I actually pulled over as soon as I saw the cop, the other guy in the Vette didn't. He got roadblocked some miles down the road and arrested, car impounded. I bullshitted with the cop for a while and he actually let me go, I have no idea how.

quick: my 89 383 vette's got gears and a loose TC, and is reportedly good for mid 12's at sea level (Bandemere is at 6300' and adds a second)

Fast: the 98 vette with the maggie hit 168 mph stock in Nevada, I dunno what it'd turn now with the extra 80 rwhp the blower adds.

Well first of all YOUR daddy lied to you...Second MY daddy could kick YOUR daddy's ass. And third, MY daddy had 1940 Packard 120 Woody with three blown and injected Chevy crate ZZ4's...850shot of nitrous, each engine had about 1800hp...He raced John Force's Nitro Funny car, beat him by 8 car lengths and about 12seconds. It was almost like time went backwards while it moved forward.

I would post pictures of the time slip but it never got printed because the computer couldn't compute the time and burst into flames.

1970 Monte Carlo. 454, 4 speed, 3.73 gears. Just sold last year. I loved it, my wife said it was too loud and too hard to push in the clutch. I'm building a 47 Plymouth for a cruizer for us with the money I made from selling the Monte. More of a comfy, long distance driver.

1957 Cadillac. Slow as dirt off the line but did it ever cruise the highways at high speed. The thing was stock, but felt like you were riding on air at 100+mph.
With the price those things bring now, I really regret selling it. .... but then again, at 8 mpg I could not afford to drive it now

I know you guys are going to LOL.

When I was in Germany I had a Dodge Omni 4dr, that had a turbo charger on it. we also had LEADED FUEL and I have seen well over 140mph on the Autobahn with it, manymany times.. The next fastest was a Fiat GT 185 and a BMW Alpina.
