I've been waiting a long time to do this. I've wanted a "real" hot rod for years but opportunity did not knock until a few weeks ago. Anyway, I took the coupe apart and needed a way to move it around so I can get things in and out of the shop. I built a body dollie of sorts. It has 6 x 6 legs and 2 x 6 frame and has a piece of 3/4 inch plywood for a top. I'll be able to use it as a mobile table later for other things.

So next I need some frame rails. I went to the metal supplier and bought some 2 x 4 and 2 x 3 , 1/8th wall tubing. I made a template for the frame horns and used it as a guide for my plasma cutter.

The black boogers concept is a secret code amongst builders so, don't let the secret out or we'll send Vito and da boys over for a visit?

    That center X-member rules....

  15. Looks like you are set up for some serious rod building. I've got lath and mill envy.

Your frame is quite a peice of work. Did you make the "X" members by spliting rectangular tubing. I see a large hole saw in the mill. Is that what you used to ventelate the crossmember and the "X" frame?

Correct and correct.....The "ventilation" holes were copied from a 39 frame I have. I was hoping to be able to use the 39 x-member but it is too deep. If I had a 32 frame it would work perfectly!...thanks for the kind words!

Are you doing all this with a MIG? I didn't see any other welders from the pictures of your shop.

    Updates for today....
I mocked up, uh mock upped .....put the body on for the first time.....it even seemed to fit with a little trimming of the rear subrails. They're pooched anyways so I'm going to have to make some up or something.

    awsome fab work.you rule!

  30. Yeah I have that same problem. It seems that I never have enough hands to do things with. And no one is ever around when I am building something cool, until it is done. lol i have had a few good shots taken in the last couple of months by some buddies when building their jeep bumpers though. Anyhow Killer Build I can not wait to really get on mine and get moving with it. I have 2 houses I have to get finished first.
