My mom is the one responsible for my hot rod addiction! She took me to my first Autorama back in 1981 when I was in my very early teens! Before that, all I cared about was late model (for the day) stuff and bone-stock 1965-68 Mustangs and 1970-74 Barracudas! I came home from Autorama with a whole new attitude after seeing all those modified custom and competiton cars, though!

It didn't hurt that my mom drove a 64 Nova SS when I was born, and before that she had a 53 Chevy! She also had a 69 Mustang and a collection of early 70s Monte Carlos, and she always wanted a Corvette!

She died this past Christmas, but the spark she ignitied within me lives on...it was her persoanl gift to me!! :)

ya! my moms cool she's got me building a car for her may not be to the taste of most of you guys but to me its cool that she wants a cool cruizer it's a 34 3 window glass body steel boards and fenders and a fuelly small block. {last part my idea if it was my car would have a differant powerplant but i want it reliable and worry free for mom the more she enjoys her first car the more i can change it up for her second.

not hamb friendly stuff... but hell yeah...(mgs, bug buicks, huge trucks rx7...)

my mom has had some crazy stuff... and she worked on / drove all of them... and from what ive heard... she drove them hard...

and the pack-rat mentality i got from her...

her resourcefulness is also super evident ...

  9. Yup....I have posted the story before about me needing Formula as a baby and the only car at home was dads factory ride courtesy of Dr Olds, with paper plates in the window. Long story short, mom went to the store while grandma watched me, on the way back she hit the main light in town. This light happened to be in front of the Mobile station my dads buddies were hanging out at. Dude in a Big block Chevelle pulled up at the light next to mom and rapped it a bit.......according to my dads pals she TRIED to ignore him. But as they say when the green flag drops................mom lifted the front wheels in the 4 speed car and dusted farmboy in his Chevelle with many of dads buddies as witness. She denied that story until my Touring was getting assembled at thier house a couple years back.......i brought it up and at 60ish, she got a smirk and gleam in her eye and finally admitted that "she might have took off a little fast!"

  10. And hack, sorry to hear about the loss of a woman that meant so much to you.

  11. My mother was a terror on the streets when she was younger. When she took drivers Ed, the drivers ed car was a Super Bee. The instructor tought how to side step the clutch! She was clocked at 95 MPH in her boyfriends drag car on the street! Her first car was a 70 Nova SS with a LT1 in it. Then she had me and no more fun cars, it was the family wagon then on out.

Yep...she's building a '55 Buick hardtop with my dad right now, and it's her car.

    I think that's pretty cool.

She also used to bracket race a black '62 Corvette, and still races my dad's '36 Ford or '66 Chevelle SS396 at the Kontinentals' Day of the Drags every fall.

Absolutley. She is the reason my brothers and I chase down vintage tin. No matter how cherry a piece, she'll say, "It'll look better chopped." If we mention supercharging something, she says "I don't like those, your uncle had one and I couldn't see past it...but it WAS fun." She is on our side when buying something "you don't need" as my dad put it. Last year my brother and I got to head to Vegas and she had to stay behind. We spray painted her nickname on one of the Caddys at the Cadillac Ranch and showed it to her and she went NUTS! I love her to death and wouldn't pick ANYTHING or ANYBODY over her.

i wouldn't consider my mom as a "hotrodder" but back before she was of driving age her and a few of her friends rounded up some money and shared a 59 or 60 caddy(she doesn't remember) and then later on she had a 68 big block 4 speed corvette...now she drives her 66 beetle although she likes to drive our other older cars she also likes to do upholstery work!!

  17. Mum had a big issue with speeding when she was younger.

She wants to race my coop @ the next Nostalgia Drags. Its no biggie to me,if oyur in your 60,s female and discovered a passion for old steel its kool.

Mums daily driver is an 2002 AU Falcon wagon. I'd be doing the old Falcon up too:cool:

  18. My Mom was a hotrodder. In her day she Drove a School bus for a living and did that for 30 yrs.... 30 yrs with all those noisy kids. Ain't a wonder she liked dual exhaust. My dad had a 1964 Sport fury with a blownup 361 and he built a 413 motor for it and after the 1st time he let her drive it, It was hers. That was the car she wanted. She was not afriad to lay it out either. Yea, Betsy was a HotRodMom.
    God rest her soul.

I wouldn't say my mom's a hotrodder just super tolerant. When I was in High School I had a built 360 Mopar motor on a stand inside the house. She spent a couple of days under my Dodge helping me put a new trans. in. Her and my aunt helped me pull the motor and trans. out of my TransAm too and they're both about 5' 100 pounds. Yeah, she's pretty cool.

No disrespect intended but when i first read the title i thought you were tryin to drum up some skirt on the side ! But seriously good on you leebo , lighting a spark of passion about anything with your parents is something to be proud of .I recently helped my old man through bladder cancer and it was all about his state of mind and will to live ...

My Mom just sold her last "Old" car, a 64 stingray.
She also had a 66 fastback mustang, a Cherry Gremlin (seriously)
and a handful of vettes and thunderbirds before I was born. It made
me sad that she just sold the last of her cars and is content with
a late model car. She still goes to shows though (and has been talking
    about an old truck).

p.s. She had bike at one point and just helped my little
brother do all the bodywork on his Suburban. I'll try and
    post pics tomorow.

  26. Yea, LeeBo........It is good to remember. I lost my mom 1st and watched my dad go thru the whole Big C thing with her. It will tear a man down. So we had ideas of gettin a car to ressurect,( get his mind occupied, He was an old wrencher for 30+yrs) he took ill. 2 yrs after my mom, I lost my dad with my brother dodgin shit in Iraq. He saw my brother go but wasn't here to see him come back. It is important for Parents to leave behind these things for us. Memories are all we have left. It's a good thing. I sit in the 48 that was to be done by a father and son, and re-live those memories. I might feel sad without them here to see it, but it makes me happy as hell to have those memories to go with it. That is where I feel at home. I'll add a prayer for you and your family when I turn in for the night. Hang in there.

Im glad to be part of a serious hot rod family, grandparents, parents, sisters, niece and nephew are all into it. I thought having a hot rod was normal until I went to school and none of the other kids family's had one.
Im sorry to hear about you losses guys, my grandfather went about 15 years ago but the rest of the family is still wrenching.
    Doc.
