Boyd passed away this morning

Man, what a shame, I don't post alot of threads, but I read quite a few of them, and I know that the type cars Boyd built may not be everyones cup of tea, but I think this thread says alot about the folks that join the HAMB, I just found out the news of Boyds passing, and there's already 24 pages to this thread, I think when a car guy dies that's exactly what he becomes just a car guy, not one certain type of car guy, just another car guy. After reading this thread makes be proud to be a member of the HAMB, lets me know no matter what type of cars we like as individuals, we respect men like Boyd who's definately a hotrod Icon. My thoughts and prayers to his wife and family.

There should be one long line of hotrods escorting him to his resting place.

 

Here is a man that will never be forgotten even if you disagreed with his style.

After Hearing The News Of Boyds Passing. I Went To His Shop Expecting To See A Memorial Of His Passing. Me With My Flowers In Hand I Was Disapointed To See My Flowers Were The Only Ones Left On His Doorstep? Although He Left This Earth To A Better Place "owing Me Money" I Feel He Wasnt Done With What He Wanted To Achieve. He Went Much To Young.

 

The man was a true original. Not many of them around anymore, and It's tough to see him pass on. It makes me appreciate his work in a new way, and appreciate my own life more......Boyd, Take care up there....

 

What a freakin shocker.sure some here including myself poked fun at him at times,I feel like an asshole now for doing so.He was truly an innovative icon in the Hot Rodding world. R.I.P

I have to say that when I first saw the Boysdter and Chezoom when I was in high school started me on my career path. I had the opportunity to work with Boyd on my Buick GS project, he hooked me up with a set of wheels. That was 4 years ago, and having Boyd sign off on a project vehicle did wonders for my career. I talked with him on the phone a fair amount, but never had a chance to be in the same place at the same time. I now work with his son, Chris at American Racing on various magazine projects. I will be forever saddened that I never got the chance to actually shake his hand. He told me he saw the hot rodder spirit and passion in me and I am starting to tear up a little just thinking about. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Boyd and am damn glad that I had the opportunity to work with him at least once.

Sorry to hear this news. I was reading the other post and just sort of lost track with some projects around the house. Then, BAM, the news hits you that someone else is gone forever. God Speed to Boyd and to those who were closest and will most seriously feel the impact.

When I left FL for So Cal in 1991, I knew nothing about hot rods except crappy southern World of Wheels junk. Boyd and his talented crew of designers like Larry Erickson, Foose, & Thom Taylor, turned out the most modern and interesting concept cars my young eyes had ever seen. The 90's were a very exciting time to be visiting Boyd's shop, and when he unveiled these masterpieces at his shop in Stanton, he put on big productions and there was a lot of drama. RIP Boyd and thanks for giving a young aspiring car designer so much inspiration.

 

Man - that sucks. Like him or not he was GREAT for the industry, and he sure didn't get what he had handed to him. Cadzilla is/was the baddest custom EVER in my book...

All I can say is wow I was just reading the thread last night about him being sick R.I.P

 

Whether you were a fan or not the man was part of our culture and he built some pretty cool cars. I am truely sorry to see him go and extend sincere condolences to his family.

I believe that the lives of George Barris and Boyd Coddington have a LOT in common. BOTH started out working on old cars ... and as fame and fortunune came to them ... they had to change. Both built good stuff in their earlier years and both have gotten a lot of grief on this board ( and others ) in recent years.

Anyone who cannot recognize the influence of these two men ... has their head up their behind ...

I wonder how many HAMBer will jump on the same bandwagon that Boyd bashers have changed over to NOW that Boyd is dead, when George Barris passes on ??

I know we have all in some way slighted Boyd in jest , me among them . Truth be told though , in response to the original Boyd post , alot of us had mad respect for him.
In the tradition of old skool wakes or a paying of respect to a king who's crowning glory was so great that the masses tried to reset the balance by doin what it is that we do in an effort to create that balance , we should recognize him. He has set that bar of refinement high enough to have warranted our efforts to preserve that heritage that we may have otherwise felt we might lose because of the greatness of his success . Most of us have seen his cars and have some-how indentified with some of them. I think we should share the experiences that we had with him (or his cars )that may have had an effect on us , even if it was a hand shake or a glance. SPEAK UP FUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!

As everyone in this thread mentioned, Boyd Coddington has inspired many in our beloved hobby.

Back in the 90's my dad owned this 32 Tub that was built by Boyd and Lil John in the early 80's for Jamie Musselman. This car was a work of art for 1980! It had a Jag rear, Jag front, and possibly the first set of Billet Valve covers ever!.. (I know billet isn't popluar here but, its' history!) Every weld on the chassis was smoothed and painted and the car was as nice on the bottom as on the top.

I started thinking about how much I liked this deuce, and wanted to share that as a tribute to a pioneer.

There's gotta be some HAMBers who have been inspired by a Boyd build... Fess up and lets hear it! The Vern Luce Coupe anyone?? Cadzilla? Larry Murray's 33?
