Supremes Are Back / Yes The Real Ones

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Gambino_Kustoms, Feb 19, 2008.

  1. Jeff, I get the early 60s showcar/Weez sorta vibe you are describing. I agree.

  2. By "real ones" do you mean the original manufacturer?

Now why aren't more cars being built that look like that? I love the 60's show car look. Just an opinion..........

I'll give you my opinion, since every one else is, I think you are bang on with the Astro's in a 4.5" or 5" width for the front runners.... This would look killer....

    How much O'Gambino One?!?!?!?

And I think the width on them isn't the problem on an open wheeled rod, it's the reversed ones that make them look too wide. A six inch wheel really isn't wide.

But oh well, unless someone's holding a kitten hostage forcing you to put them on your car, who cares?

Wait a minute, those don't look like the Astros that I'm used to seeing. I'm not saying that you are full of it, I'm just confused.
The spokes on the Astros, that I know, increase in width towards the rim (yeah, like a Cragar). The spokes on the photos that you posted look nearly straight, if not completely straight.

Is this a different, more rare, Astro?... Or am I just seeing things?

I believe there were a few Astro brand wheels, maybe 2 other styles? much harder to find since i think the supremes out sold every style from astro

The very first Astro Supremes had a different spoke and hub. Here's a scan from one of my old magazines from '64. I don't think these are the og one's that Alex is offering. But these were the FIRST incarnation of the Astro Supreme.

    Bottom Left.

I'm surprised to see that Astro referred to that early design as "supreme". That design as well as the steel slots were the first designs that they had available back in the day.
The wheel we all know as "supremes" came later on from Astro. They musy have made
the change to tapered "spokes" to compete with the popularity of the Torque-Thrusts
from American and the new Cragar S/S that wheels came out around late 63'-64'. Thats my best guess...

Yo, Steamboat - read the very 1st post: "anyone interested pm me call me 408 561 5744." Not quite right demanding pricing in the thread. Get you some more HAMB-friendly manners. vic
