I posted this over on the Jockey Journal since its for my bike, but figured it could be applied here too. I'm goning to be using a vintage microphone as my tail light so I needed to make a lens. I don't have pics of me in the process because I was by myself but it's simple enough to understand by description. I went to lowes and picked up this all purpose relector. I then set the front of the mic on the reflector and scribed a line. Then if you heat up the reflector with a heat gun it gets soft enough to cut with scissors. It gets a bit distorted but it doesn't matter. Set the cut out lens on top of the mic end, heat it up with the heat gun, and push it to shape with something that fits the form you need. (in my case it was this dildo looking pepper grinder.) Here is how it looks after shaping. Removed from mic end Then I used a belt sander to clean up the edges. And your done. Here is the finished product, then again with a flashlight behind it.
I know it wouldn't be period correct, but if you use LED's for lighting, it will help because of the smaller size light. Just a thought... 51FourDoor
Is this similar to a Harmonica mic? I have seen those before and really like the rear bullet shape of those handheld mics. Great tech. Good thinking!
Ya know it may not be traditional, but that's the kinda shit that makes me love these forums.... "Necessity is the mother of all invention." Keep it up man..... Later.... Archie..........
yea they are having fun with that on the Jockey Journal too. I knew it was gonna get mentioned thats why I said what it really was in the post
Great idea.......Those mics are bloody expensive over here.....are there repop cheap ones available anywhere?.......great shape ....Bert
