Joyce Johnson was in an Accident in her RPU "CherryBomb" on Saturday

I know alot of you guys in the PNW know Joyce and her red RPU named "CherryBomb" so I thought I'd let you know. She's Ok, banged up abit but didn't have to stay in the hospital. Her boyfriend Roger was a passenger but wasn't so lucky but is hopefully going to be released today. Major road rash, lots of stitches in his face, etc he was ejected from the RPU, no seatbelts.

She was cruzn on I-5 going 5-10 MPH below the posted speed limit. She had just gotten her truck back from the shop and noticed ALOT of play in the steering wheel. Anyway, she hit a bumped in the road and the truck swerved and she sideswiped a small car. Then when she tried to bring the truck back she lost control and hit the cement medium. The front end of the truck is totaled but she really has not seen the rest of it.

Of course none of that matters compared to Roger getting hurt. Please say a prayer for him for a speedy and painfree as possible recovery and PLEASE wear your seatbelts.

I glad she wasn't majorly injured and she could walk away from it...Vehicles are replaceable,lives aren't..Here's best wishes to a speedy recovery..

I too have see that RPU may a time.She takes that thing up and down the West Coast to alot of shows.Hope its a speedy recovery for an awesome lady and her hot rod....

Not only wear your seatbelts, but give your cars a check once in a while. Especially if it feels funny or loose.

so, denise, is this the same joyce that you and i met in the bonneville pits several years ago? i made that assumption at first, but got to wondering. the same prayers and concern apply regardless, but now i'm curious.

 

keep us posted Denise on how they are doing..
not that it matters at this point but i hope the RPU isnt totaled, and if you know of plans for her to fix it.

Yes, it was Speed Week 2003 and she was dating Gene Winfield at teh time. I met her in the Nugget parking lot when her and Gene walked up to Big Olds. Her and I hit it of right away. The next day is when we all paid a visit to Gene's pit, viewed his scrapbook and her and I went for a :ride" in Big Olds. We've been great pals ever since. The following Detroit Autorama she came out for the week and stayed with me so alot of GMB's know her as well.

This past year on the Salt, as I got out of Big Olds, she was about 100 yeards away from me and I hear this scream "Denise", turned toward her and like in the movies, we went running toward each other. She helped out with Megans "photo shoot" then we all went back to her encampment and we met Roger and the rest of her posse.

I hope I can grow up to be as cool as she is one day.

Prayers and speedy recovery.... but "no seatbelts" should be a warning to us... and did "she noticed" before the smashup?... Pull over and stop. First-ever rod I built I put belts in....
