Who made these valve covers?

I just picked these cool sbc valve covers up but I have no idea what company made them. I polished on these damn things all day so any information any one has would really be appreciated. thanks

 

I think Ansen made them, but I don't think they were sold under the Ansen name. Probably late '60's early '70's when the Gassers were big. I remember seeing them at Honest Charley's as a kid.

Those have also been made with weiand logos, bowties, Pro/Stock, and Motion (sold thru balwin chevrolet). Possibly more I missed. Wanna sell em shoot me a PM, trying to collect the set.

 

I may be completely off-base here, but when I saw these the first thing I flashed on was a line of auto dress up parts once sold thru J.C. Penney stores. Like there was a whole line of wheels, air cleaners, valve covers and other chrome-goodie-go-faster parts with "A/FX" labelling. Or maybe it was Sears or Monkey Wards.

 

A/FX line was sold through JC Penny's. They offered valve covers, mags, shifters and other misc goodies.

 

First thing I thought of was my AFX slot car track I used to play with when I was a kid . The Baffle's say late 60's and 70's. Nice looking covers and the breather holes are nice to have.

Definitely a JC Penney item... made from the Ansen castings... same covers are still made today, minus the AF/x logos of course. Pretty certain they date back to the mid- late 60s. Cool pieces.

I have a set similar to these on our 59 Plymouth Altered Gasser. Never seen many of them out there and always assumed they were a little rare. Glad to find out where they actually came from. Good Info!

I bought a nice pair at Turlock a few years back, the previous owner told me if they didn't sell that weekend he was going to mount them on his Chevelle and roast them until they popped. I cant believe how stupid some people are.

 

I remember when J C Penney was doing away with there performance parts line. I went to there tire store at the Monroeville Mall in PA. They had a big clearance sale table set up. I bought 2 Hurst shifters for next to nothing. That had to be around 1973-1974.

 

Man I love the HAMB! Any info you need is always somewhere on here. I was able to basically pry a pair of these from a friend who finally decided to let me buy them. The cherry on top of my early 70's build.

 

I ran Penney's 7.00-14 cheater slicks on my 327 Chevy powered MGB at Lions Drag Strip way back when 'cause they fit the fender wells without butchering the car. They worked well with a liberal application of VHT traction compound. They looked exactly like Caslers.
The fact that big retailers such as Sears, Monkey Ward and Penney's sold speed/dress-up parts speaks to how generally popular the car hobby was back then...........

 

Don't think they had A/FX intakes, they did sell "name" brand speed parts as well. A friend of mine use to manage a Penny's auto service center, said they sold a bunch of speed parts back in the late 60's because you could charge them on your Penny's card, remember that was before Visa and Mastercard was common, most real speed shops I knew of didn't take credit cards.
Another friend of mine ran a set of 14" A/FX slicks on his 67 Fairlane mounted to stock rims and 2" lowering blocks. Real good for the sleeper effect when street racing.

 

i have a set of them. a pretty knowledgeable guy told me they were sold by western auto .
