can you drill out drums and put studs in and get rid of the bolts, anybody do this I think it will work but would like to know if anyone did this, thanks
I have to use spacers on the chrome wheels because it has a 4in back space and hits the tierod, and it a bitch to get them even, now before anyone ask why dont you get a 3in back its because it will have to reverse and that wont look right, and Ill have to buy four of them, and if i can put studs in i can use my painted wheels and get bullet lug nuts, bullet cap for the spider cap look, so did anyone do this?
No, I didn't convert the original drums to studs. I did swap the drums for 45fin drums I pulled off a '64 225 parts car. Simple swap, I used the '65 bearings and machined the original inner race to space the inner bearing out and give the seal a place to ride. Including the trip to the parts store for new bearings and seals I think the job took 2 1/2 hrs start to finish. Plus I was able to run a wider shoe which helps braking considerably.
You would most likely have to machine a flat surface around the bolt holes on the back side for the sholder of the bolt to seat against squarely but it should be doable. I'd pull a drum off and see what it looks like on the back side and go from there. When I had my 55 in 1966/67 those bolts were a pain in the butt then.
I am going to check it out mr48chev, dont know why nobody did this yet but Ill see what happens, pics of my buick after piant
Here you go http://epage.com/js/mi/1786983.html I have bought the same stuff from this guy for my 41 Sedanette to use with my Cragars. I had the same problem as you with the 4 backspace and spacers.
