Since this thread came back from where ever it is old threads go, I thought I would post an update of mine. after and before:

Hilborn injectors with custom air cleaner. Edelbrock heads. 11-1 compression. Harmon Collins magneto with lead plate. (Mag has aircraft coil conversion) D&L accessory drive. (Inj. pump, mag, tach.) Martas crank driven water pump. Water headers. High volume oil pump. Hayes aluminum flywheel/clutch. Gear drive starter. 2 inch W type headers with 3 1/2 inch O-ringed dumps. Baffled center exhaust ports. ALL studs in the engine are custom made of 4340HT steel. This engine makes over 1 hp per cubic inch on gas.
Pete, after seeing that, it's difficult for me to claim that I'm running a flattie or even running at all for that matter... geez, in the name of all that is holy
Backtoflatheads: It's not rocket science. It does take a bit more money to build a go fast flathead the conventional way (no blower or nitro). I just wish more guys were interested in vintage racing. On the west coast we have races from Washington to Arizona all summer...The best shows are 3 day all vintage...Usually draw 70 cars.
Be careful Nitroflatty1, the way that is mounted on the engine stand can break the back out of the block, those should be mounted off the exhaust ports "Doc"
