Hope this is on topic! Guess I'll find out! I am at a crossroads in my life! Maybe a midlife crisis! I want to build old cars for a living! I have access to 40 or 50 cars (1900s to 1960s) that my Pop has collected over the years! He planned on building them all, but you all know how it is when you got a family to feed! You pick your family 1st! So there we are with all these cars and they are just sitting there rusting to nothing! Here is my dilemma. I have been working at a sign shop for 23 years, and restoring cars in the evenings and weekends. I am getting sick of the 9 to 5 job! However I am not stupid, if I quit my job how do I pay the bills? I guess my question is: Any suggestions on how to transition from a secure job to a unstable job that I will enjoy a hell of a lot more? Any one know of a Bank that could finance a rod builder? Maybe this is a stupid post but I know I want to build these rods and I know I can't without quitting my current job! I guess fear plays a big part!
Just a thought, why not open your own sign shop to pay the bills while you feel out and transition into hot rods.
get or work part time and sell parts and unfinesed cars at swatmeets and off internet, you gotta spend money to make money, its hard to make money at it you gotta work fast
Thats a good Idea! I have learned some good skills in the sign industry that kind of fit the Hot rod era...like sign painting! Old advertising on commercial trucks were all done by sign guys! Maybe i can meld the 2 together! Thanks Dude
The way the economy is you better think twice about quitting your sign job, specially if you have medical coverage. If you have space build a garage and work on your cars on weekends and nights. It's hard to start over at 50!
