  1. 90% Jimmy, although the statute of limitations has run out, this isn't the place for Danakas stories. Some secrets are better kept.

Chili Phil, thanks for getting back. So I suppose any Gary Gabelich stories are out of the question?

The pics of the Danakas brothers were interesting. Marcs looks certainly changed as he got older, I must say.

Thanks also for the Rendon/Kalitta/Shirley pics. Amazing that Connie and the finish line NHRA guy (last name=Rickman?) escaped with their lives!

What an awsome thread, simply fantastic. I was born in So Cal, 68 years ago. I can't remember jsut how many times I went to the Beach, the Pond, Irwindale, etc. Started in the mid '50's. I saw so many of the cars picured on this thread, I'm just speechless.

Hey, remember when Mike Dunn did that fire burnout on his bike in Funny Car Summer? Complete with a parachute stop. COOL!

I remember this kid Robert, back in Kentucky about '70...he had a fully loaded Pea Picker, brand new. His dad was a traveling sales rep for Revell model kits!!! He had a whole garage full of 'em!!!!!!! This kid had it ALL man.

1 - They had AIR CONDITIONING, and to keep everything really cool, his (hot) Mom put aluminum foil on all the windows. She stayed home all day watching soap operas. We used to beg Robert to go to his house for Kool-aid, but his Mom would never let us in.

2 - His Dad had every single bitchin' model kit Revell ever made, plus some new ones no one had even seen yet. He wouldn't let us touch 'em, or even sell us one. "Heh heh OH NO kids hands off, those are my business..." Robert had unfinished, f!@#ed up models all over his yard...he blew 'em up with firecrackers. He melted 'em with matches...

3 - Robert had a mint Pea Picker with everything. He never washed it or put the kickstand down. He wouldn't let any of us ride it, but I got to roll it once...it felt HEAVY, like a motorcycle might.

One day we were all riding through the neighborhood and Robert tried to ride a wheelie. He flipped over backwards, doing a huge faceplant. His Schwinn rolled right in front of us and fell over on it's side...we had plenty of time to go around it, but, every one of us rolled right over that thing! Robert laid there like a slug pretending to be unconscious. He wasn't fooling anybody and besides, he probably had insurance out the WAZU!

I think he wound up on the west coast somewhere, with a tv show about hot rods or something...

Yo Baby, I guess you are referring to the Fiat?

I doubt it ever ran much less made a pass. Jim was famous for many Allison powered show cars. I believe he "retired" to Lahaina, Maui.

Re-Pop of Flamin' Frank Pedregon's car. Current NHRA legal fuel coupe, built by Pat Foster.

Anybody ever see it run faster than this?
