so i somehow found a girl that lets me build carburetors and cylinder heads in the living room and talked her into getting hitched. we've been trying to do it for a few months now, but it just hasn't worked. today we're leaving for phoenix to spend christmas with her family and there's a family reunion then too that we wanted to be married for.

leading up to the last week we were really trying to get it done but couldn't find any time with the prep. i couldn't talk her into vegas because it's too cliche, mesquite wouldn't work because the person at the casino that does it is gone for the holidays. thought we'd try laughlin but apparently they do it the old fashioned way down there. then came friday night.

alison (my wonderful new wife) was hanging out with some friends from work (she's a server ar a restaurant called thaifoon) and told them about our conundrum. well one of the guys she works with shimes in that he's an ordained minister with the "universal life church" and offered to do it. this is at 11:30 that night. she tells me about it and a crazy scheme is hatched. she talks to the manager since he was there and he says go for it. plans are finalized about 1am and we message all our friends. we didn't tell our families yet because we didn't want anybody to feel left out...all or none folks.

well the time is set for 8pm last night and we have 16 friends manage to make it. we all hagn out for a bit while the "minister" has a few shots at the bar. thing is, he and some buddies got their ordinations to perform marriages about 5 years ago as a joke. he'd never actually performed a marriage. well we put in our orders for food and while we're waiting for our appetizers we have the ceremony right there at the head of the table. apparently word got around the restaurant because out small collection of friends turned into a crowd of at least 50 gathered at the other side of the long table. reverend carl did great, made a very nice little speech about family and christmas time apparently there are still SOME people who understand the real meaning of the holidays. we said our "i do's" and the restaurant erupted in cheers and clapping. it was really cool. then we sat down to eat and her manager even sent out a bottle of the best champagne (mucho pricey stuff) and free dessert for the group. a couple of the girls she works with also got us a couple cakes since "congratulations alison and patrick" doesn't fit on a 12" cake that well ;)

total time for conception of the idea to actual wedding was 21 hours. she sent me the text about it at 11:31 12/21 and we were married at 8:38 12/22. it was a great time and now i've got a great wife that supports and understands me and my love of all things old. hell, she even encouraged me to buy the cadillace flathead that is going in my diamond t.

    i'm one lucky man!!:D

Congrats! Sounds like a hurricane of fun getting it done!

My wife and I have a similar story, but hey - the thing that matters is that you got a winner, and did what you both wanted!

    Enjoy!

I'm an ordained reverend in that church too!!! My whole dorm did it online as a gag when I was a freshman in college.

Anyways the important part is that you are happy and married. So you deserve some big congrats especially for finding a woman that lets you build carbs in the living room! CONGRATS!!!!

I too am a ULC ordaned minister. I performed my first marriage in 1997 and have done 6 since. All are friends, all are still married. It was the best $28 I ever spent (I got the deluxe package) and for 10-bux more I could have been a bishop...
