I am in love with this build... this is what its all about really isnt it... garage built, with help from friends, and parts from small rod shops...

I love this car, but I already said that, nice done!

Thank you :) You're right, hot rodding is all about the experiences... it kind of makes you wonder how people can just write checks and have other people do all the work. They're missing half of the fun!

I wish I fabbed it. The time crunch forced me into buying a lot of parts I would have normally tried to make myself.

I have already planned another build in my head (roadster) and on that one I will not have a deadline and I'll take a lot more time and fab everything I can.

Sorry... got distracted. LOL. To answer your question it is a "Super X" crossmember from Dagel's Street Rods. http://www.dagelsstreetrods.com/super_x_crossmember.htm

I'll add my praises too, for what they're worth! Great Build, well written text, Great Car. Gives me incentive to hurry and get on with our Essex Coupe. Just a pile of rusted metal now, along with a head full of ideas. Happy Holidays too. oldrodder43 perley

I think the leatherback idea is not the best approach, I would definaltly keep it a hard top. Keep up the fast work.

    nice build!

hard to tell, but what kind of clearance do you have between the rear tires and the body?? looks a bit tight there in the pics

Any particular reason (based on functionality, not asthetics)?

I am not fully committed yet (90% sure though) and I think I have a few months before I get into any sort of body work, but my ears are always open to tips.

It's tight! There might be 1/2" of clearance. I have a pair of Wheelkid's adapters (not spacers) on there. I'm going to get in touch with him soon and see if he can make me another pair, but about an inch thicker this time.

youch! 1/2" is way tight. 1.5" still might rub on the quarter. panhard bar in the back might help ya keep the tires off the quarters....

HA! Turns out my 1/2" guess was way off!
I just went to take another look when I was home for lunch.

Yeah... I'll deal with that soon :D

I'm stuck here at work while my girlfriend has the whole week off... so I made her go pick it up for me. :D
The picture I have of it isn't too flattering. I'll get a good picture of it this evening when I get home. Nothing but the best for the HAMB, right?

Great build...it looks great. One question though, should't you be fitting the steering box? And what about brakes, peddle etc. Just asking.

I need those? I thought those were just fancy add-ons you guys did? :p

I'm starting on that stuff tonight. I have the column, pedals, and other stuff I'm going to use. It's just a matter of cramming 10 lbs of shit in this 5 lb metal box and then mounting it... I hope.

    Awesome.

Let's hack the crap out of the cowl to get it to fit. :D

is the cowl in the way? we could probably get away with moving the mounts forward an inch or so if it is.

if you need to do this, make me a pattern or two of the plate you need cut and mail it to me. i'll cut em out and drop em off.

    if that helps.

Damn you and your logic! :p

Yeah, that would probably be best. It really is just an inch or less. I could redo the tranny mount while I'm at it and have it be a straight across piece instead of the cantilevered mount on there now.

I had to go out to dinner tonight with the girlfriend and her family Tomorrow dammit... tomorrow I MUST get back in the garage!
